Is it just me or is there a website where muncie info is broken down with facts?
I know generally how to interpret the various date codes, the individual numbered components, the casting symbols etc. When it comes to the I'd tags it seems to be a crapshoot, although I have found some lists on here and other sites they tend to contradict each other and are sometimes very vague. I'm also interested to know if there's a list of vin/ car models?
Like mine is 8N467701 obviously camaro. I see some for sale that are 9s123456. What is s ??

It takes a little digging for info on the net, but much is there. I found a Chevelle site that listed a lot of plants and their corresponding alpha code. Do a search for GM plant codes of the 1960s. Once you figure the plant initial code, then you can learn what was built at that particular plant.

Hey Chris, there is information out there.

Generally years and years of experience can't just be given out in one fell swoop - so other people have instant knowledge.

Ask specific questions and you will probably get answers. This is a great site with a lot of helpful people. Nobody knows everything, so each of us ask and answer questions. Has to be both ways.

So you traded that part I was interested in?

Yes on the part, sorry I thought I had sent you a pm. I have no clue what the door is worth but I paid 300 for it and that clutch seems to be the harder item to find. I might have messed up.... Lol

S= Vette transmission.
There is a reference somewhere about the dating of the pressure cast parts. the ones with the dials or dots.

I think one of Jerry's books showed some of the dial dates etc and/or there were some threads on here a long time ago.

You can go to this link and scroll down for a list of plants for full size Chevy.

I believe St. Louis was also building full size in 1969. Impala SS could get a Muncie. So S is not a guarantee it's from a Corvette. You would need to look at the partial VIN too.

I was informed a 9s1 partial Vin is a St Louis Corvette number, a 9s2 is the Impala partial Vin. I had a 9s2 Muncie m20 tranny and it was a impala. But that's what I was told on my Muncie site

Nope. 19S1xxxxx or 19S2xxxxx would both be from a full size car. (Passenger car VIN's started at 19S100001 and continued from there). 1969 Corvette production started at 19S700001 so the partial VIN stamp for a 1969 Corvette Muncie would be 19S7xxxxx.

Crap I'm wrong on year, sorry I'm way wrong mine was 65, that is my fault. I was not paying attention to my own post. My tranny was impala 65 not 69. I apologize. My partial Vin was S2 it didn't have a number before it, it was the casting case numbers that determined mine was a 65. Foot in mouth, thanks Bertfam side note this was the trans in my 67 Camaro, I have since sold to intstall a date correct 67 m20 in my camaro
