1968 radiator removed from Z28

 I have a 1968 radiator I removed from a 1968 Z28 it is a 4 speed radiator but according to the tag it should be a auto radiator. Anybody ever see this before?

Whats the tag between the UI tag and the OF stamping?  Was this from a LOS or NOR car?  Build date etc.

Confused! Yea I do it a lot! Had the radiator been re-cored and in the car when you took it out or you had it re-cored after taking the radiator out? I'm just wondering if there is any possibility the tag was switched when re-cored by the radiator shop.

It was already recored but the codes on the tanks match the tag. It looks like the one tank had the indentations for the trans cooler fittings but were never drilled out. I would think if it was a replacement tank it would not have a factory code.

OF tank is for an auto trans sb car..  I would assume that the goof was at Harrison and Chevrolet just happened to install it (without looking at it or they were running low);into a Z as it could have ended up in any manual trans 6 or sb 8 cylinder.  Just another one of those anomalies of human error in a production line environment...  Just my $0.02

Their is a shop tag to the right of the OF stamp. The radiator was worked on and may have had a tank replaced. Happens all the time.

yes it was recored but would it they changed the tank I doubt it would be a gm coded tank

Long ago shops had parts in stock simply due to high volume repairs. The body shop I worked in years ago had an attached radiator shop. What happened to your radiator is anyone's guess. If you have a particular requirement, I'd suggest calling Glen-Ray Radiator. He's done work for me and he is quite knowledgeable. He also has NOS Harrison 3 and 4 rows, coolers and used tanks in stock. Easier to call him for all he has to offer.
I now save every tank from cars I scrap; too bad I did not do so long ago when we took all these cars for granted. Now I just have my own radiators made.

The original tank may have been damaged, cracked or crushed. My buddy that has a radiator shop saved used tanks for replacement. the code means nothing to them, just that it fits and doesn't leak.

I could care less what car it was pulled out of...  The interesting point for me is that the tank is coded for an auto but the tank isnt punched..

That's exactly what I was wondering about and on the tag it also says it should be punched so it can not be a wrong tank installed.

Yes that is exactly correct...
That drivers side tank is an unpierced auto tank... it has provisions for the fittings for the autotrans cooler. They just are not there.

I dont see one but is there a letter date code between the O & F?

yes a H
