Originality / Cowl Plenum treatment
« on: December 05, 2023, 08:45:37 PM »
What was the normal treatment inside the cowl plenum?

What is just left with the color from dipping?

Was there and effort to paint it? primer;body color, matte black?

That's not another L, that is just part of the stamp itself.

I think it's all factory, btw.

Yup, the operator bumped the "egg" while he was re-positioning the tool and knocked one of the number rings off-index; I've seen that before. Nobody paid any attention to it in the plant, as it was "invisible" - the heater or A/C case was installed over it before the body got to the first Chevy Trim Line inspector.

The more I look at it I think you’re correct. Probably me just over analyzing it.

I find it more interesting that the leading 7 is missing on both stamps....

Odd as well in the first photo you can clearly see another L and 1 that is lightly stamped.

Would seem like a lot of work to forge a not so rare car.

I’m sure this is authentic but both of my hidden VINs have a 3 out of place. Was this common place?

General Discussion / Re: Radio restoration
« on: November 09, 2023, 12:34:31 PM »
One round trip from  San Diego to Pomona to the radio guys shop. He came recommended and was really nice. We had already traded emails and talked. Here’s the story…my 68 has a factory AM/FM. I pulled it out in 1989 or so because the light bulb blew out. Changed it out, 2 weeks later the radio quits, so I put in the ol’ Sparkomatic with the 5 band equalizer /power booster. Pull Sparky out during restoration and put in non functional radio.
Now at the radio guys shop and told him I don’t have a front speaker. The original front speaker got tossed forever ago and now I new to source a front core somehow (found a convertible rear already). He walks over to a plastic bin, pulls it down and says “take your pick” while he answered all my questions about fitment, date codes, etc. We tested my fader control -Tis good to go. So I get reconed OEM front (with the mount bracket) and rear speaker, fader installed, a “I’m replacing all these parts that fail over time” and showed me an example, cleaning, lubing, tuning, etc. In about a month it’ll be done. He even showed my Bluetooth piece that can connect to the FM frequency. Factory radio -no extra cables! Stay tuned.

He reconditions the factory radios and gives the blue tooth capability?

Can you post his contact info please.

I asked for the photos.

Good day sir,

I'm interested in the 67. Could you please send me some good photos of the cowl trim tag and the engine block stamps.

Thank you.

We'll see what happens.

Sent me this. Seems like I've seen this photo in another for sale post.

Still waiting on an engine stamp.

Somethings odd; I just tried to message him again on ebay but the user account is gone. Really odd is that the car is still listed.

Sauron, I saw their ad, and their stuff looks good. But I decided a direct hand off to Joe and zero chance for any shipping company to destroy or lose it was worth the time. Gas money is a push as well. Also, I was repeatedly reminded again how much I would never want to live in or near California.  I’ll post a follow up when I get it back.

I know the feeling. Left in 86 and never thought about returning.

Beach City Chevrolet was in California. I grew up in North Long Beach and Lions Drag Strip was awesome.

The info on my car is in my sig, but it's an 11B LOS convertible if it matters.

I wonder if the paper is normally under the plastic part in question and my car is actually missing it?

I can't testify to the accuracy of this; I've only had the car for about 3 years.

Video of the material.

So the car is "ALL" word of mouth by a pervious owner who says the guy he bought it from told him it was such and such, with no paperwork to prove any of it?

It's more like paper than plastic?

I happen to have my column out right now if you need measurements of it.
