I thought the whole car was primer, not just the stripes. Lots of non-original parts under the hood, including a replacement motor.
One mans unrestored survivor, is another mans needs everything restored.

The engine pictures are showing a 365hp rating on the valve covers. I thought this engine was only used/available in the 1966 Chevelle offerings.

So either replacement valve covers are being used, or the engine was replaced. Again....?

Is the underside of the hood usually black?  Just noticed what also appears as a test patch of primer under the hood and possibly fire damaged peeling paint.

The more I look at it, the more questions I have.

the tach looks like a 5.5k7k.  how does one absolutely confirm a big block car? 

1.  documentation for original purchase.

2.  ?
