I coordinated this post with Kurt.  We will add pics as time allows.

Here are some pics of early designs of the Camaro.  After early designs on paper, clay models were often used to get a better feel of what the car would look like.

XP-836
The first photo is from November, 1964. Chevy Studio showed this clay model concept car which would become the Camaro. The clay model was badged with one of the early names consider for the project - "Panther".  There were several different renditions/designs through the years for the XP-836. This basic design would eventually be used for the 1970 Malibu/Chevelle.

The second photo is another version of XP-836, also from 1964.

Another concept car.

XP-837
This was a 4 passenger mini-Camaro developed by Chevy and GM design in 1967 to compete with the small import cars. It is said this eventually evolved into the Vega.

Here is another concept car, the 1967 Camaro Aero Coupe.  It was badged as a Berlinetta, and did receive consideration for production.

Thanks for posting! Its interesting during this time period, many concepts/designs among several manufactures influences can be noted, and later made it to production. The 1964 clay front bumper reminds me of '69-'70 Shelby/'71-'74 Javelin. The 'aero' version's rear does '71 Mustang coupe, and the other I also see Vega and 1970 Camaro/Firebird. Another observation on my part, the 1969 Camaro's side fender/rear quarter 'lips' remind me of AMX. Interesting none the less.
Just another T/A fanatic. Current lifelong projects:
