Your decode of date seems correct. I have seen that format before. I don't know if there was more than one supplier.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Distributor codes

If there is interest, I can work on putting something together on the distributor numbers for each year and application, for easier viewing.

I have several distributors for example pics.

Originality / Speaker date code
Last post by x66 714 - February 14, 2026, 10:19:49 AM
This is the original front speaker from my 1969 Norwood built Camaro. It doesn't follow the date code format that I've researched. An example of 466912 would indicate speaker 466, 1969, 12th week. My August of 1969 doesn't follow most of the known rules anyways. Can anybody say why this is different? I'm pretty sure that the date code is April 24th, 1969. Thank you, Joe

Thanks, it is in-fact 460.  I found the answer in the "Tune up" sheets on this site.

Date code should be YMDD, so 9K23 is 1969 October 23 day. Months are A (Jan) through H (Aug), "I" was not used, then J (Sep) through M (Dec).

That info is from Colvin's "Chevrolet by the numbers 1965-1969". This book has Distributor codes, but not for L6 :(

When checking my 1969 Motors repair manual, it lists two distributors for L6-230 1110459 (manual) & 1110460 (auto).  The manual does not actually say which one is manual vs auto, but looking at other engines, the lower number looks like the manual versions.

My books only go up to 1971, but a google search says 1110499 is a 1973 or 74 model.

Restoration / Seat Belt Retractor Covers

Anyone purchase the reproduction covers (LH & RH) that most parts vendors are now carrying and were they accurate reproductions and worth the trouble to replace?

Thanks in advance.

For others: the difference that Kevin is alluding to is whether the reinforcing ribs go to the center locating hole.

The 3927791 fan that is in the cooling article is from an 11C car, fwiw. https://www.camaros.org/coolingsystems.shtml
There's a change in the clutched fans. Wouldn't be surprising to see a similar changed in the fixed fans, though I don't recall seeing other part #'s.

Originality / Early 1969 4 blade fan differe...
Last post by KevinW - February 11, 2026, 09:24:08 PM
OK, we all know the early 1969 Camaros had a lot of differences, then the ones built after Dec/Jan timeframe.  Mainly a bunch of 68 "looking" holdovers of design.

I think I have found another.  This is the 4 blade fan from my Oct 68 build's 327 original engine.  I did not think too much of it.  But when I looked closer, I realized it looks like a 67-68 fan, but has the holes drilled for the larger 69 bolt circle.

In the 2nd pic, you can see where the hole is a lot closer to the rivet than the 67-68 version. Same exact size, both have a stamped "2" on the back of the blades.

Thoughts?
