Interesting reference to the "Super Scoop" hood.

The raised hood was always called the "Super Scoop" in Camaro advertising in '69. When the Chevelle came out in '70 with a similarly styled hood, GM used the name "Cowl Induction" for it. The cowl induction name has subsequently been used for any car using that style of hood scoop.

Again, not relating exactly to the Trans-Am series but still, a rarely seen article in National Speed Sport News
showing the hometown celebration for Mario Andretti after he won the '69 Indy 500. (Jon Mello Collection)

Here's a picture of the Sears Point pace car for '69, a Shelby GT500, as found in the '69 Sears Point Trans-Am program. (Courtesy of Robert Lodewyk)

It came out of the Sears Point program you loaned me, Robert. She was part of a two-page spread featuring girls seen at the track so I'd imagine you had sensory overload.

Hi guys.  This is my first post here although I've been soaking up the info from the Trans Am section as a guest for several years.  I am a Trans Am fanatic and a Camaro lover & owner.   I also love pace cars (all models) and have found several pics of Trans Am race pace cars on the internet and in books.  I found this picture of a 1969 Camaro SS convertible pacing the October 5, 1969 running of the Mission Bell 250 Trans Am race at Riverside International Raceway in California on the Historic SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series Fan Group Facebook page.  It was posted by Steve Lyman.

I also found this picture on the Historic SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series Fan Group Facebook site.  It shows a Porsche 911 Targa coming up the entrance to pit lane just before the Trans Am cars got the green flag at the July 16, 1972 Trans Am race at Road America, Wisconsin.  Steve Clifton posted it.

Here is the picture that JoeC was asking about back in 2011.  It's the one and only 1968 Z28 convertible ever produced and it paced the first Can Am race of the season at Road America on September 1, 1968.

UPDATE: Looking back at the thread I started at camaropacecars.com about this car, I see that I corresponded with JoeC about this photo earlier this year.  The internet is a small world indeed.

Here is a picture of the 1969 Camaro SS convertible that paced the Trans Am race at Laguna Seca Raceway, Monterey, California on August 24, 1969.  I found this picture somewhere on the internet (possibly on this site).

Here is a picture of the same 1969 Camaro SS convertible that paced the 1969 Trans Am race at Laguna Seca.  You can see it parked on pit lane while Mark Donohue flashes by the checkered flag.  I found this picture on page 154 of "Trans-Am: The Pony Car Wars 1966-1972" by Dave Friedman.  The last pic is a closeup of this same picture.
