Head light washers
« on: June 21, 2019, 04:04:46 PM »
How rare would head light washers be on a 69 non RS Z28?  (RPO CE1) I think.

There were 116 '69s built with CE1. There were 37,773 RS built with them.

No one much cares about head light washers.

I respectfully disagree. I may be one of the 37,773 RS owners factory equipped with the CE1, but I took some effort to restore mine and make sure it is correct. Came pretty close to reproducing the valve, even to contacting GM for the licensing routine and securing the prints for the valve, only to have someone beat me to it when I couldn't afford the mold charges. (about $20K then, in the early-mid 90's). If a documented CE1 non-RS car shows up, it's still a rarity no matter what option you prefer. I vote for cool -

Thanks for the replies.....was just curious.  I had seen them on RS Z's.  But never on a X77 Z like mine.  Thanks Bob

Steve I couldn't agree more, since we're all crazy about what the bolt head markings are on any fastener why isn't the washers being done up right??
lets post up some pictures for the "no ones" who want to detail their cars right (like me)

I've got a lot of pics in the archives, plus I'm pretty confident in my restoration of the unit that currently graces my Z11. Years back, before the reproduction valves came out (before I could start one), people were paying really stupid money for original units, most of which were in bad shape. You see a lot of washer units either incomplete or missing entirely nowadays, usually a quick way to separate whether RS owners are paying attention to the mandatory details of RS restorations.

I'll be glad to post whatever details you want to see -

Regards,
Steve

steve,

I for one would like to see some *details* of the correct headlight washer system.  I know what is on my car, and I'm sure what is there is original, but I've never 'operated' them so I have idea if I'm missing something?

I think William was saying that although only 116 non-RS cars were built with the headlight washers, the rarity in this case does not equal alot of value.

Thank You for correctly interpreting my statement!

In my 44 years in the hobby [99% '69 Camaros] I can't recall any substantive conversation about head light washers. In addition, I worked in the industry [Camaro Parts Exchange] for 14 years. We had used systems; don't recall selling one or having an inquiry. It was hard to find parts back then; much worse now. Not unusual to see a restored RS without it these days.

There are several options that will add value to a restoration. Head light washers isn't one of them.

I would agree with that statement William. Kinda like a rear defroster or maybe the digilite system. Kinda neat if you have them, but may not find the right buyer to pay extra for it.

Now, I’m offended. Rear defroster owners unite! 😁

Another dud was the console mount 8-track. We had several of them, surgically removed by yours truly. Every wire, nut, bolt, screw. All had nice pads, usually cracked & worn. Even the under dash 8-tracks didn't sell. A few years before the owner retired, I filled a crate with every sound system component we had and sold it to some guy in CA.

BTW, I recall selling a '69 Camaro convert rear window defogger for big bucks. Had the rare power top/defogger combo switch bezel.
