International Camaro Club
« on: March 31, 2016, 01:22:17 PM »
Could someone give me some History on the International Camaro Club? The patch on this jacket says, 25th Anniversary. I am trying to learn what date that might be. Yes, I did some searching here and Google, but did not turn up a date. Thanks, CRG.

I think the 25th Anniversary was referring to the 25th year of production for the Camaro (1967 + 25 yrs), although some of those 'clubs' were begun more than 25 yrs ago (prior to now).

Note re some of these 'clubs':   They are not really 'clubs', but are privately owned BUSINESSES, intended solely for the profit of the owner.  They sell 'memberships', which are really nothing but subscriptions to poor magazines for the most part, until they realize they don't make money printing magazines, and then stop without any compensation to the 'members'.  The 'members' of these 'clubs' have Zero input to the operation of the organization.  One (or both?) of these Camaro organizations was begun by an individual who began the CCCI (as a club), but when we incorporated due to growth, he put his own name down as 'owner'.  When questioned about this by all the people who worked for the club, he said he had to put down something and it didn't 'mean anything'...   It probably didn't mean anything until he sold our 'club' to a private business a couple of years later and profited to the tune of $$$SevenMillion$$$.

Hey, never thought of that Gary? Bet you are right. That would be 1992! Makes sense based on the other patches.

All that club stuff usually ends in 'hard feelings', agreed. If I do belong to a club, it is just as a member and not active. I am sure the idea was for all to volunteer and help the club. the more invested you are, the harder to walk away when things go awry. But this is not the real topic which should be adhered to. It was just an observation on Gary's comment and since I am the OP, I can. But I do not want the thread to go in this direction, so I ask that this part of the conversation be dropped in the interest of not bashing clubs, personalities, etc...Thanks, B.

I remember them being around late 1980's early 90's. They started a pace car registry back then but can't recall when the ICC got started , some of the key members here should know.

Gary, What did CCCI stand for?

Classic Chevy Club International...   was initially a 'club'...  then D.M. declared himself the owner, and sold it for $7M...  it's now a part of the Eckler industries... in Florida.

Gary I thought you declared yourself treasurer .... Shouldn't you have Overseen the sale and disbursement to the shareholders (members)?

Kidding.

I didn't realize there was a dark side of the club scene.

Bentley where did you dig up that jacket?

:)  No, I was not the treasurer... :)     Doug M. took the money and RAN.. then created one of the Camaro clubs (I can't remember which one?)... probably thinking he would do it all over again..?

PS.  since I was one of the first *lifetime* members of the original CCCI 'club', helping raise money to reproduce parts, I still get the 'club' newsletter (Classic Chevy World - original title), now just called 'Chevy Classics' and printed/produced by Ecklers.   Let's see... I paid $175 for a lifetime membership around 1978??, which has turned into a subscription to the Ecklers monthly magazine/sales catalog...  going on 38 yrs worth?

Hey, you're lucky! I was a "year by year" member of the CCCI (joined in 1974 when it first came out - member number was in the low 100's, but I don't remember the exact number), but then I let the membership laps after a few years because I sold my 57. I then bought my 55 Nomad and rejoined in 1980 or so as a lifetime member (member number 17180), and I don't get squat! I have EVERY issue of Classic Chevy World magazine form the first to the last, INCLUDING the two "Tech Books" (volume 1 and volume 2)!

I was SO P!$$ED when the club got sold. Like everyone else I guess.

Interesting story Ed and info I was not aware of. Wow, I'd be you know what also!
What I liked was the jacket shown! I have some old patches and need to purchase some period looking attire and add them. Got me thinking, be neat if we had a CRG patch. :)

OK guys. Thanks for replies. Scored this just a few days ago on another site for those who are curious. Here is the whole jacket. Looks like it might even be made in the U.S. It was bought new in the early 70's(have not received item yet).

Is anybody familiar with the "National Muscle Car Association"? I believe they put out a magazine called Fast Class that you got as a club member. I think it was back in the 80's.

Well Gary,  If my math served me right..lol,  Your making out.  At 38 yrs and 3 month worth (459 months) for $175 bucks that just a tad over .38 cents per monthly issue and getting cheaper every month you continue to receive the mag...lol

If one was to factor in the cost of printing/shipping.....well your waaaaaaay ahead.  Did you say "No, I was not the treasurer"...hehehe! J.K.

Bentley,  very cool jacket.

No complaints from me in that regards, but $175 in 1978 was a significant amount to me.. :)  .. I only paid $1000 for a good '68 Z28  in 1974...   and there IS the 'cost of money' to be factored in...
