Dealer memorabilia - what do you have?
« on: October 01, 2015, 11:13:20 PM »
I got this on ebay $2, arrived today. This dealership where my camaro was purchased went out of business long ago. I think this is late 70's based on the chevy slogan. A little rubber mirror pouch, for my wife when she complains about her hair with the windows down. I'll keep it in the glovebox, matches the red paint.

It's nice that you found something.

I have been looking for something from Dick Fencl Chevrolet - Oak Park, IL from late 1967 but no luck so far.

Dealer items from the actual dealer that sold your car, can be a needle in a haystack of needles...
I have gotten lucky finding a nice license frame for my 66 chevelle.
My 69 Camaro I was lucky enough to trade for an original key fob, and then more recently the original owners son just started running across items in his moms basement. So I now have some dealer window scrapers, a USA-1 plate from the dealer who took over,  and some original parts that came off my car ( front license plate bracket, original dist cap, historic vehicle plate, a few boxes of original AC spark plugs ( sets of 8) 2 NOS, and one set was the originals that came out of the car.
As Bryon points out sometimes the items can be so elusive...

I have a nice rechromed set of license plate frames from Clippinger Chevrolet, the dealership that my car was purchased from on June 20, 1969. At that time, the dealership was in Covina, CA; still in business today, but relocated to West Covina. I hear the original lot is still there today.
Side note, I have both original California black plates (tag # is my username), and have got the exact same plate number reserved here in Australia so when the car eventually hits the road again, it will wear it's original plate number. Wife thinks I'm mad, but to me that's a nice tribute.

I'm curious what other dealer memorabilia was available. Sometimes finding something is easier when you know what to look for.

Side note - I gave my wife the mirror last night as a little gag gift, and she absolutely loved it. It sent her down memory lane - even the smell of it, she remembered playing with mirror pouches at her grandmother's house with her dolls. So score one for the thoughtful husband.

Do a regular search in eBay with the dealership name. Something might eventually pop up. That's how I found a reprint of a photo of Smith Motor Sales in San Antonio.  Only thing I have though.

The other thing you can do is "save" the search, and check the box for eBay to email you. Anytime something matches your search you get an email, this way you don't have to manually do the search everyday. I have like 70 daily searches I get emailed about, and every so often a neat piece comes around ...

There was a guy at a swap meet that had about 50-60 matchbooks with different dealer names.  He wanted 50 cents each for them.  I probably should have bought them to see if anyone might need one.  Oh well, I can't buy everything. :)

Here they are - frames have been rechromed and I need to paint the letter borders black again - if anyone knows what level of gloss these were originally, please let me know! I've seen a few originals, but hard to determine after so long.
PS is that image appearing the right way up? In my PB album it is, but it shows up on both an iPad and a pc sideways, even after clearing the cache and reloading the page numerous times.....

That's cooler than a mirror pouch or yardstick! These days its very common for a dealer to put plate frames and dealer stickers on the back of the cars they sell. Did many do the dealer stickers in the 60's? What else is there, other than matchbooks?

Thanks - Andy

I found a few "So. Tacoma Chev"  dealer pencils to go along with my, frames, matchbooks.
Other items I would think include key fobs & ice scrapers.
