Maintenance / Re: goodyear polyglas tires
« on: October 22, 2013, 12:33:53 AM »
Try tightening up the steering box. I did and it really helped
X2... and alignment?
Were the alignment specs for your bias belted tires followed when the tires were put on the car? Toe-in?
Thank you for the reply..  My Camaro had a alignment after car was frame-off restored.  Then came the goodyear tires.  I've never heard of "alignment specs" for goodyear polyglas tires. Can you give me anymore info on this matter??  Trying to resolve this issue with the car, because its not safe at high speeds.  Thanks!     Don

Maintenance / goodyear polyglas tires
« on: October 20, 2013, 07:21:37 PM »
Hello everyone!!!   I have a issue with a set of goodyear polyglas tires I bought new from Kelsey tire.  When on the open road, car want to track left to right.  It seems its wanting to follow cracks in the road.  Any input would be helpful from this site.  I've had a guy tell me it the tire design.  These tires have a "square" edge not "round" like a radial tire.  thanks!      Don

Maintenance / Re: storage

Hey Guys....I came across this storage bag for classic cars.  It's called "Car Jacket".  You un-zip it, drive your car on it, put the desiccant moisture catching bags in car, trunk, engine bay, under car and zip it up and your done.  The entire car is 100% protected from the elements.  Check it out!!   Don

Restoration / Re: am/fm radio repair
« on: October 16, 2013, 03:11:23 AM »
Hans L, so is your radio dated February 3RD 1968?? ... Danny

I have no idea where there is a date code on the radio. Curious where it is.

Per the Chevelle Radio Tech site,  it decodes as a '69 AM FM and is correct for a Camaro, if I interpet their decoding correctly.   I have not been able to find a site or place that tells where the date code is.  Clearly the ID tag on the restored version is a reproduction tag.

From the Chevelle Site:

"Example: the correct model number for a 1969 Chevelle AM/FM pushbutton radio is: 91BFP1.

Using the decoding information from above, you might be confused by the "B" in the model number since "B" indicates "B-body" or in other words, a full-sized Chevy. So why is it correct for a Chevelle or mid-size "A-body" ?

The answer is some of the same audio equipment was shared among different Chevrolet vehicle lines. A full-size (or B-body) Chevy such as a 1969 Impala shared the same AM/FM mono radio with such vehicles as the Camaro and the Chevelle. To keep things simple and costs down, B-body radios such as the AM/FMs were often installed in other vehicles. "B" can also be thought of as the "default" radio to be installed when a vehicle line did not have its very own line of radios. In fact, many Chevrolet vehicles "borrowed" B-body audio equipment at different times in production."

Hans L.   What did this guy charge you for the radio resto job???    Don

The last generation Camaro was fine...when they "tweaked" this time, they forgot about the "first gen" Camaros.
In my opinion, "old school" style and designs sell.  When its all said and done, they'll go back to square one. Stay tuned Camaro lovers!

General Discussion / Dash Light illumination when starting engine
« on: January 20, 2013, 02:39:40 AM »
Hi Gang!!!  I'm new here so bear with me.  I own a 1969 Camaro SS/RS.  I've noticed other Camaros that when started, the generator and temperature dash lights come on when starting the engine.  My car has been re-stored and the lights are intact and have been tested  OK also.  Question: where do I started to look to correct this??  My car also has "console gauges".  I've seen cars with console gauges, and there cars dash lights, light up too.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks!!   Don

General Discussion / Clutch grind (reverse)
« on: July 14, 2012, 02:44:43 AM »
Hi Guys!  I own a 1969 Camaro SS 396/375 car with a 4-speed M-22.  Just finished a frame off restoration on it.  Ever since I statrted
driving it, when I try and use reverse, it grinds.  Adjusted clutch numerous times.  Last move is at 1/2' to 1' free play on pedal.  It also appears that when car get hot, grinding seems more apparent.   It's fine when car is cold.  Any advise would be helpful.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: "KC" stamped Big Block

Thanks for the reply but, when looking at the pad with the naked eye, you can see the "cast surface" of the pad.  Pad's I've seen that have been decked, leave swirl tool marks on pad.  This
is what I have, and I'm leaving it like this.  Car has gone thru a frame-off restoration.  This may be my last post seems like you have to have a perfect car to chat here.  Later......
