My father acquired this motor from the original buyer in late 69 or early 70 from what I can remember. I believe the car was made into a race car like so many Camaros did. I know the original owner died in Vietnam and my father got the engine from the father. The car probably ended up in a crusher which would break many hearts.

To Jon Mello this is the motor I was talking to you about.

looks good. I think your exhaust french locks- (the upside down U) should be be bent down though. It is on 69, so I assume it should be bent down on 67?

Also is the sticker on the valve cover 302 only thing for 67?

I am not sure about the sticker but I know the 67 had them . It's had to find original pics of these motors.

If you look at family survivor post, 69,s did not use the French locks. Nice looking motor. Through it on a test stand and fire it up.

If I had a test stand I would break it in before I sell it. Thank you for the compliment.

I don't currently have access to the AIM  on my phone, but I was pretty sure the locks were used through the 69 model year at least. maybe longer?

I can't find one picture with those locks in the 69 AIM.  I'm not real familiar with 69's or their AIM though, just can't find it in there.

Don't think you'd see that detail in the AIM, since the manifolds were installed at the engine plant.  Might be in the overhaul manual?

Were they just/only bent to clear when smog tubes were present?

OK I just went through my archives of pics, (and most were pics of 69). I see the french locks on all V8 motors, BUT I think you are correct Pete, it looks like they are only bent down on the motors with the SMOG tubes installed, to provide clearance for them.

*I cannot say for 67 and 68 if it was a sure thing though

So I think for your 302 the french locks being "up" (unbent) would be correct, as long as it was not in a car from california, or going back into a california car that has smog tubes.

Sorry for the hassle... :P :-X
