Thanks for the reply. What would the correct finish and head marking be?
Thanks.

WorkinProgress

The nut is the correct finish.

Here's an original - as far as I can tell, it was a phosphate finish (no evidence of cad or zinc iridite), either plain steel or phosphated nut and washers. Bolt is 1/2-20, 4-13/16 length under the head. Only marking I can see (sorry for the rough finish) after beading is an "L", which I highlighted best I could for the pic. I have both sides, they are identical markings and specs.

Hope this helps -

Regards,
Steve

After reviewing this thread a conclusion would be the spring cup eye bolt, washers (2) and nut were all originally manganese phosphated for '69. I'd be interested in any other observations as only one CRG member provided a photo. The restoration parts suppliers sell this fastener in gold iridite or zinc.

Don't mean to hijack topic but what about the rear end U Bolt nuts ? The ones on the U bolts that mount the springs & shackles to the rear axle. What finish on those ?

Thanks for posting photos and other references. Seems to be inconclusive regarding the finish on the nut - phosphate or zinc? Jim you stated: "Heavy-Duty Lock Nut, Grade C SAE (Fine) Thread - Nuts - Nuts - Fasteners & Hardware Zinc plated, silver finish", where did you source this information?

The bolt & nut might be a UNC course thread vice Fine thread.
Zinc plated is what I found on my particular car during underbody restoration.
The rest is typical fastener jargon.

Thanks Jim, on re-read I now realize you were commenting on the finishes for the axle U bolts and nuts.

I just came across a photo of my former '69 10 10 RS/Z survivor that was taken by James G (firstgenaddict) about the time the car was found following almost 2 decades of storage. The photo could be clearer and the lighting is not great but it does appear the eye bolt's nut and washers were zinc plated. Another clue is the full surface rust present on the surrounding fasteners that are known to be phosphated
