My first suspicion at this point is that a past owner, not knowing the VIN was stamped above the oil filter, had the VIN stamped into the pad... I know when I bought my car, and didn't see the VIN stamped (as other cars I'd owned) on the pad, I *wondered* should I stamp it in myself..  I Now am very glad that I didn't do anything so stupid..  :)

Of course it's also possible that someone 'new' or forgetful' in the stamping station of the plant stamped it in the 'old' place, and then someone informed him, or he remembered, to stamp it in the 'new' location as well.

Seems like every stamping discussed here anymore is either an exception or some kind of assembly line mistake? Uh huh.

Maybe one of the guys from "echoes of Norwood" could answer this one?

This car is back and now restored. Says 4 - wheel disc?  Typo? Anyone EVER determine if it was a Born-With drive train?  .. Danny

Photos of the body in process shows no Muncie speedo cable holes.

Could be toe pan was replaced.
Learning more and more about less and less...

Did any one save images from the op listing, or reply #7 ? are they from  before the car was restored ? Be interesting to see.

So the block stamp was mentioned, but I haven't heard anyone chime in as far as it looking like an original stamp or original to this car? The trans is not original and the rear was assembled after the car was built, and then more recently disc brakes were added to it. Also of the sandblast pics it appears the RS package was added.  The trim tag appears original though. Seems like Williams observation on the hole for the speedo cable may be a key piece of info

I hope whoever considers this mess, finds their way to this thread first.

My take on this thing when I first saw it was...."this one stinks"...

Engine V1203DZ is a bit early for this car. VIN is not a factory stamping. In the one pic of the engine, it shows the pad in bare metal without heads on it from a distance. To me, it looks like someone tried to replicate broach marks by sanding the pad and you can see the sand marks going back around the cylinder. Rear-end stamping BT0214G2 is after the car was built so its not original. RS was added and confirmed by original pic of the car without RS. Starting to look like it was a real Z but was pieced together with parts to get it back together again.
