This car still exists and is still registered in some state.  I ran the VIN through NMVTIS and can see that it still exists.  Run the VIN through http://www.add123.com/ and pay $4.95 and you can know the state it is registered in.  With this you can see if you can track down the current owner.

I didn't pay the $4.95 to find out the state, but it is good to know that the car exists.

Bryan, what is NMVTIS?

Thanks, Warren

NMVTIS is the national public title database established by the Department of Justice after a report by the FBI concerning vehicle branding and cloning was being washed by the individual states titling and branding practices.  For instance one state may a flood brand for the titles and another state may not an instead brand it salvage or reconstructed.   If someone with a flood title no longer wanted a flood title they would only have to run it through another state that doesn't recognize the flood brand.  The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) was established to connect the public and the individual states DMV offices with each other.

What this means for collectors is that with access to this database we can tell if a car is still registered and in what state.

I just tried this service on a 1970 Roadrunner that I purchased new (my first new car) which I would love to find, and it came back 'No record found' with the following information:
"Please check the VIN you entered for possible errors. If the VIN is correct, this vehicle may be titled in a state not reporting to NMVTIS. View a map of participating states.
If a state, salvage yard or insurer does not report a vehicle to the federal database, no report will be available.
Even though this VIN is not in the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS), it does not mean that this vehicle is free of damage, title brands or other problems. NMVTIS data comes from multiple sources, but the absence of a report is not an assurance of a vehicle's condition.
"

So this seems to be saying that the non-existence of a report, does NOT mean the car doesn't still exist....??

I just ran it. The car is in PA. Last titled in 2008. Now I just need to figure out how to find the owner.
