NICE CAR, but can the people bidding really be this stupid? The POP doesn't match his VIN and the Windshield Sticker is a reproduction!

POP VIN is 124678N434704 and the car is 124678N433549

Since the POP didn't match the VIN, I sent the seller an email asking him about it. His reply was that "The protecto plate came with the car when I bought it a few years back and I've had it in my safe ever since"

Well, considering that POP was on ebay just a few months ago (08-03-13 by seller fdgoodnight), it's a bit difficult to believe his story! So yet another ebay seller caught in a lie.

For SOME...   lies are an everyday fact of life, and apparently the ONLY thing they know..  :(    and once they tell so many, how would they know truth even if it bit them?

So true about lies, Gary!

Good detective work, Ed!  "Oh what a tangled web we weave!"  This is a perfect example of how so much wrong information can become "attached" to a car.  We'll probably see a post from the new buyer in the next few months asking for "justification"...  ::)

Another "BAD" car from Florida!!  Anyway, here is his explanation:

Dear x66ss396,

Hello, yes the protecto plate is slightly different, the last 3 digits are off. From what I was told there were often slight mistakes made when stamping the plates. The window sticker matches the car exactly and shows the same dealership as the protecto plate. The plate also shows the car being the same Color, Convertible, AC, Options ect as the car has. Plus the dealership it was sold at. So the chances of it not being for this car is very slim. It was most likely a mis stamp like I was told.

Boy, this guy sure likes to make up stories!

Here's what I asked him originally:

QuoteYou show the VIN as 124678N433549 in the description and on the window sticker, but the protecto plate shows the VIN to be 124678N434704 and is for a 327/210 with a Powerglide! Did you post the wrong protecto plate picture???

His first reply was:

QuoteJust had to go look myself. The protecto plate came with the car when I bought it a few years back and I've had it in my safe ever since dont know how to distinguish the size engine or transmission from it. But the number on it is as you said slightly different from the Vin. Let me call a friend who knows more than I do and get back to you. This is the first time I ever noticed this. Give me an hour or so to ask him.

His second reply was:

QuoteI sent him pictures of the protecto plate and the vin on the car along with the cowl body tag and the window sticker. He said the the vin on the protecto plate although close is not correct although the color, interior, options, A/C, convertible and dealership is. So he said only thing he could think is maybe at some point the dealership mixed up protecto plates during warranty work or something because it's so close. I'm not that knowledgeable about them so I would have to go with his response.

None of this explains the fact that he purchased the POP on ebay a few months ago and the windshield sticker is a fake!

Not just a liar, but a bad liar. The last FOUR digits are off, not the last 3.

Bid is up to 34,900 and reserve not met. The problem with dishonest sellers is that nothing can be trusted, even the bids are suspect.

Pretty car ( don't know what's under the paint)  Seems with the price of resto mods---if your just honest ,you could probably get an honest price. And not cheap. Just my thoughts.

We still have 100 octane gas at some of our pumps here in California.
