The Original Vinyl Top on a J2 '68 Z28 was taken off by an earlier owner and I want to re-install it. Is this possible, have any of you done it or had it done? I live in So. Ca   Thanks

I've done this many times. Although not on Camaros specifically but it's the same routine on all cars. Are the pins missing for the moulding? If so it's not hard to replace them but it's extra work and more money. Some upholster shops do their own pins but some would want a body shop to put them in place.

Yes the pins are missing, so this is no big deal? About how much would it cost?

tmodel66

No, it's no big deal.  Body shop will probably have to replace these. Your on the west coast so I have no idea on cost but would guess no more than a couple hundred just to put pins on.

I had it done professiionally a few years ago as a part of a major exterior, frame-on restoration.  The shop also did some body work and paint, so I cannot tell you the exact cost.  But I think the total cost on the top came out to be about four times the cost of the top itself, which would be a little less than $500 in 2012 prices.  They did put in new pins.  Like Daniel, I'm on the East coast.

I posted a pic here (over toward the end on page 9):

yes I remember your thread and I believe it's a personal taste. I like them and it does date them but that's what cool about them. I am going to put it back on ASAP. It looks cool and sets it apart from others. When they put it on is it best to use a pre-cut top like sold at Classic Ind. or just let them cut it from scratch, I want the factory look with the seams.

Let the people that put it on cut to fit. Get a much better job. Believe it or not but not all tops are the same.
