Correct Carburetor Date

I found a D9 dated Carter carburetor. Is this too early for my 07A built car?

April '69 Carb for a July '69 build? I think It'll work but I don't think you want them any further apart. My born with Carb is an L8 for a 12A build...less than a month apart.

In addition, the build date of the engine is the same month as the Carb..."T11" 29HB (November 11). Not that it matters, just thought I'd throw that in.

Daniel...Yes it will work but obviously the closer you get to your cars completion date the better. Read John's reply #2. The only item that should be dated prior to the engine build date is the distributor. All other bolt on engine parts were installed on line. So...the date for your carb should be prior to the cars completion date.

don't know about Carter carbs, but my original Holley carb is date 872. July 1968. Car trim tag is 10B, built October 68. I believe carbs were manufactured in batches, so it may not be unreasonable for an April manufactured carb to end up on a car assembled a few months later.

Relatively low production car components like a Holley carb for a Z28 were batch built and stock piled for use as the cars were ordered, but they were banging out 4 barrell Rochesters (and carters under contract) day in and day out to meet production numbers.  Its just not economical for a manufacturer to tool up everyday for something production numbers like like 30 carbs a day, but if they could bang out 1000 of them all at once and then wait a month before doing it again it becomes much more econimical for them.  I think you'll find the more common the part, the closer to the cars actual assembly date the components got.

My original carter is dated E9 for a May 25th built motor in an 06A
