My unrestored '69 Z28-RS has the PPG SOLEX DUPLATE type windshield, with a '69 date on it, but apparently this is a replacement, not the factory installation?   It was in the car in '76 when I bought it...

For an original 'unrestored' car, with all other glass original, should I replace this windshield with a repro?

What is the best source for an original reproduction windshields?   Can you purchase with a correct date code?   US made windshield with correct thickness?  or a thinner foreign mfg?

Is all the other glass PPG?

I've seen a few Norwood '69s with PPG glass. I believe Pontiac used PPG. In production they didn't much care what was used.

This company was recommended by Jerry M. They can also date code the glass for you. Like with anything else, research them first.

I can verify psautoglass.com I got a Dated Windshield there for my early '67 Coupe, it is right on.  Guys name is Mike Wimmer he is very knowledgeable on these date codes.  Located in Janesville, WI. just south of Madison.  I live right in the area, was able to save shipping.   My car also had all original glass, but windshield was  cracked.

IF the glass is not DOT marked it is an original, they started DOT marking glass in mid 69.
I have seen both LOF and PPG in 69's.

William,  My car is a Norwood Production (09C) but NO ... No other PPG glass.  All the other glass (sides and rear) are:

Soft Ray,  Safety LOF FLO-LITE    AS-2    IV  Solid tempered

I would leave it in. What type of sealant-gasket is holding it in ? Even if it was not orig I would much rather have a piece of glass that was installed in 69 or even 76 versus a repo.

Ditto...

Thanks Charley...   that's generally my personal opinion as well.  I really *hate* to use reproduction parts..  and I don't want to on this car, unless the CRG consensus is that I should.  I can get a supposedly-correctly colored and marked/dated 'reproduction' windshield for around $400 ... but I believe they are slightly less thick now than the factory windshields..

I suppose I will just clean this one up ..and maybe remove it and reseal/re-install  if necessary.

Is it true the repops are thinner?

Charley

Ones I have used are thinner but it has been a few years.
