Is a #1111489  -  8 H 21 (Aug 21st 1968 ) dated distributor too early for my 11D (4th week Nov. 1968 ) build car ?
I'm having allot of trouble finding a date correct one, and this is the closest I've found yet.
Thanks for any help.

The date should be on or before the engine build date stamped on the pad. The closer the better. That far in advance seems to be outside the range prefered based on what I have seen. There are always exceptions, but if you don't have the known original those exceptions would not apply.

My 11B has it's orig 1111488 distributor and it's dated 8 H 29, so it could be possible.

Billy,

That date is fine for an early car.  These parts were made in big runs and from time to time there is a wide gap.  The famed Brandenburg survivor car in the beginning of my book is a mid Feb built car and it has a factory installed 8K30 1111480 distributor in it.

I pulled one out of a L48 that was a December motor with an earlier than your distributor. Use it. :)

Paul,
That's Me ! Kinda tough without a picture, but I've been looking for one for a long time. Now I just have to have Jerry rebuild it for me.

I have a 68 L48 survivor 10D with 4 spd. trans. my distributor part # is 1111264 which is a correct 68 part # and the date is  7J5. I was wonderinging the same,  if it was to far apart but the part # matches the car perfect and the rest of the parts in the motor all are within 2 months.

That's September 5th - if it's prior to the stamped engine assembly date on the front pad, it should be OK.

but it is a 10D 68 car and it is marked 7J5 and from what I am understanding the 7 stands for 67 or am I wrong?
Thanks
