1969 Z28 Trunk Restoration

Just bought this 69 Z28. Would like to stop the surface rust on the bottom of the deck panel in the trunk. What is the correct way to paint/preserve this area.
Does the spatter paint look correct?

That trunk area is perfect & I wouldn't touch it. That area wasn't painted....Joe

My '69 Z28 is identical to McFlys, and it has always bothered me that the underside of the rear 'hat panel' is bare and has light surface rust.   I'd like to 'do something', but I also want to preserve the originality...  Do any of you have any suggestions for how to do both??

You could hit it with matt clear or rem oil?
I wouldn't want to discolor the package tray would be my only hesitation.

Looks good. Agree with the Remoil,,if you are inclined to coat it,comes in wipes.

Mine has trace,,at most. I left it. After 53 years, (now), if that's the worse, not bitchin' 😉

I dunno!!!!.....I mean if your gonna have your car judged at a concourse event, a judge will reach up in there and expect to rub off some brown oxidation....

I would leave it alone myself, looks fine.

What you should be looking for is the correct padding that belongs under the new rear shelf cardboard.

Do you know of a source for the 'correct padding' that goes underneath the rear shelf cardboard?   Mine is in place along with the rear shelf and has never been removed, so I don't really even know what it is or how it's supposed to look, but from inside my trunk, I can see 'something' which is deteriorated coming thru the holes in the metal shelf....
