original muncie 4 speed numbers

I found a original 1968 rs/ss camaro that is been sitting for a long time and is 90% original and am getting ready to restore it. All the numbers match on the partial vin for the motor with a date of 1019MS, and cowl tag is 10D.  The rear end has a BS 1019 #.  Now the question, the casting on the munce trans is for a 67 but the stamped # on it is P1021, can this still be the original trans it looks to me like trans has no reason not to be original.

That's not original to that car.  This is an older assembly stamping used in 64-66 vintage Muncie, with "010" case.  P1019 designates Oct 19th assembly.

So it is just a coinsiedence that the trans is the same month and week as the rest of the drivetrain,  you dont think they could have just used a 67 camaro munci casing for a 68 camaro. The casing is casted 3885010 and the vertical stamp is P1021.

Different Muncie procedure started in the 1967 model year.  That is why this trans in not correct.  In 1967 P7A20 is an example, P Muncie, 7 model year, A is month and 20 is day of month.

so if I was to look for a close to original fit muncie trans, with the #'s from the car, motor and rear end all being in the third week in the month of oct. I know now the casting# should be 3925660 but what would be the stamped # to be close to exact trans that went in the car?

I would like to have something like P8R03, 04, 05.......etc.  Early Oct of 1967 or late Sept for an early 1968 Z28 Camaro.

Would  p8r11 work or to late?

P8R11 is fine, and in some cases, the closer the better.

I just checked the numbers on my 68 Camaro transmission.  The maincase casting is 3925660.  Can someone help me decode it?   The stamped # is P0M08A ?   Any help would be greatly appreaciated.   My guess is it's a Muncie M20, 4-speed, August 8, 1968

It's an M20 assembled on August 8th, 1969 for use in the 1970 model year. Post the VIN and we can tell you what it originally came out of.

I'm not sure if it is a VIN but this number is stamped directly above it..   101515705

Pat, check that second 1 again. It should be a letter.

However, from what you've posted, it came from a 1970 Chevrolet and probably came from a Los Angeles built Camaro. I say that because this was the only Chevrolet model in 1970 that started at 500001 for the VIN sequence, and the second 1 is probabaly an L.

I just went down and checked it again.  The secone 1 is defenitely a 1 which matches the other 1's on the vin.
I looked at it every way to see if I could make an L out of it but it doesn't appear to have any letters.
