VIN tag is fine, it's just installed wrong.

Both trim and VIN tags look to have been removed and reinstalled. Perhaps for a color change.

How can you tell the trim tag is fake?

It has things wrong with it.  More will chime in, but the issues aren't spelled out so the counterfeiters don't get better.

X2 on the trim tag being replaced.

May have been done for the color change?

I can't see anything in that pad pic.
Here's the original tag from 2004. The current one is a repro with a multitude of errors on it.
(note that the pic doesn't have to be tiny to be a small file size - this is only 65 KB)

It went from Royal Plum to Resale Red. I would have preferred the Royal Plum.

Original tag shows AC, repro does not. Is the firewall near the heater core all hacked up?

WayneinNZ

Here is a clearer pic of the engine bay.
You can easily see that it used to have AC

AC? That looks like a big block heater box cover.

Sort of looks like the firewall AC "suitcase" hole was patched over, then a BBC heater hole cut into the patch?  Kurt said it had a BBC in the past.

The picture resolution is not that great, but it looks like there is an out line of an AC suitcase and I see 3 screws and a plate on top of the cowl where the AC diverter would be installed.
Also, that single orange wire going through that big grommet (behind the ignition wires) is where the AC wiring harness should be. Non AC cars don't have that.

That's the original engine for the car (and is what the POP said too).
They did a lot of work to change things around - remove AC, tag change - but didn't know what they were doing. They matched the tag to the engine date, not realizing the original tag was correct.

Surprising an engine assembled 11/14 was in a car scheduled for 06A.  Especially for an MV application at the LOS plant.  Must have been sitting way back in the corner.

Kurt, do we know why the 6 months difference?

Do you know who last had the POP? Would be good to do some digging.

I have made Contact with the owner who had it from 2009 - 2018 - He doesnt have it.

Any help would be appreciated.
