I found it VERY difficult to find a source for a "Restoration" finish matching the Galv appearance, So I resorted to Brite Zone as an acceptable alternative. Also seen them both Stamped and unstamped w/ date

Yeah, I ran into the same problem trying to match that original galvanized look. I ended up using CRC Zinc‑It Instant Cold Galvanize on mine. It comes in a spray can, it's easy to use, and it's held up great.

It was a production Olds Toronado/Buick Rivera color for 1969.

So this is not the same color as the infamous 'Carolina Blue' 69 Z28 ?   It was described something like GMC fleet blue at Barrett a couple years ago but I dont know if that is correct either.

This picture is an original one from Lloyd's build thread (24th week 1969). Does anyone know the font for the numbers? Maybe Lloyd will chime in.

Hey Doc,  the cover in the photo is from my '69 that was built on 28-Feb (02D).    Maybe the 24 is a day code, assuming mine is original.

Rare Parts rebuilt the pitman arm on my '69

 I used the Soff Seal gaskets for my lights. The off white color is also closer to the originals.

Kurt you are partially correct. Cars could be ordered at the overseas location and picked up at the dealer where the serviceman would be stationed or at a location of the servicemen choice. Being a retired air force veteran myself, I actually did that when I was stationed in Germany.

DeLorean wrote a book in the '70s "On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors." A good portion of the book concerns the train wreck he inherited when he became Chevrolet General Manager on February 15, 1969. He mentions no involvement in any of the areas Wiki lists; the delay of the 1970 Camaro was 100% due to the failure of the quarter panel tooling according to people who worked there. He did a great job turning Chevy around and was promoted to GM upper management in 1972. It was a bad fit and he resigned in 1973.

I've heard the 69 model was only one year because of new safety standards.  The 1971 model was moved forward in a hurry.  Might explain why the tooling wasn't ready? 

My '69 is also a 71/715.  I like the combo except the dark blue plastic parts fade horribly!  The black does not for some reason.
