Great! Thanks for posting. The top two photos show the Floyd Aaskov Camaro in '68 at Mid Ohio. This is the same Camaro raced by Lance Pruyn and Peter Pulver in '67 and it is currently owned by Scott Bader. I don't know the others except for the last one which I believe raced in A/Sedan but not in Trans-Am.

This I believe is a newer photo of the car in color...

Craig Fisher sent me this photo from a test session done at Marlboro in December 1967. Note the Goodyear tire on the front of the car and Mark with the Firestone patch on his driving uniform. Roger had been a Firestone dealer but they switched to Goodyears at Kent (Washington) for the Trans-Am finale because Mark cut better lap times with them and they were wanting to close out the season with a win (of course). After Kent and this test session, Roger became a Goodyear racing tire distributor and gave up his Firestone franchise.

L-R, Craig Fisher, Mark Donohue, Peter Reinhart pouring oil, and crew chief Roy Gane.

Here is a picture of the Dick Lang 1968 Z/28 Camaro, before it was turned into a race car.  According to Dick Lang's son, Todd Lang, the first picture shows:

  • Owner/driver Dick Lang on the right.  The fellow on the left was Dick Lang’s mechanic, “Matt” Mathews.  Matt was a long time mechanic at the Lang's Chevrolet dealership.
  • A blue 1968 Z/28 Dick Lang ordered, along with a bunch of road race specific factory parts to make the car into an A-Sedan and Trans-Am racer.

The picture below is of Dick Lang's 1968 Z/28 Camaro at the 1968 American Road Race of Champions.  Dick Lang won this event and was crowned the A-Sedan national champion.

And I must thank Todd Lang for the above information on his Dad's Camaro, and for allowing me to post these photos.

Terrific stuff! Todd, your dad was a very good driver. He had some good success with a '63 Z06 Corvette as well as the Camaro. He was good enough to be asked to join the Owens-Corning Corvette team for races at Daytona and Sebring and they were the dominant team at that time. Many thanks for letting us see those neat historical photographs. We'd love to see more or hear more from you as time allows.

Ron Fournier was and still is a master fabricator who joined the Penske race team in the fall of '67. He was responsible
for most of the construction of the '68 and '69 Penske Camaro race cars. Here he is sitting in the second '68 race car
prior to it being lettered. This is at the Penske race shop in Newtown Square, PA.

You can read a little more about Ron here.

A great story on one of the unsung racing heros.  I was priveleged to meet him at the 09 Petersen Tribute to Trans-Am. - always had great admiration for the guys who could weld and fabricate etc.

This car was a body-in-white and was not a completed car, just a body. From there they built it into a completed race car after first acid-dipping it to reduce weight. They painted the car blue and put a red interior in it apparently because they liked the combination. I have seen a photo later in the season where Donohue's car has blue interior panels.

A photo of the '69 Penske Camaro dash and interior. This is early in the '69 season due to the presence of the vinyl top.

Mark Donohue's Camaro. This is believed to be at Mid-Ohio in June '69.
