1969 Z28 Cowl Tag
« on: February 26, 2011, 10:54:37 PM »

i need to ask the CRG members a question about my Z28, on my Cowl Tag my build date reads 091, shouldn't it read a number followed by a letter "a-e". Its a late 69 build, was there a change in stamping on the cowl tags for the new production year? I know its a 69 but was this how 70 cowl tags were done . I was wondering if someone can shed some light on this.

It should have a letter. One of the more common errors seen on tags. Have seen 051 & 061.
Learning more and more about less and less...

That's a new error to me. I don't recall ever seeing a Sept one. If you could post or email me a pic of the tag, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

If you have the picture hosted on an website (eg Photobucket, etc), you can link to that photo via commands.

To attach the files, they don't have to be small to be small files. 800 pixels across is a good size. Try reducing the resolution (aka jpg quality factor).

Tag is the original and looks fine.
I wonder what caused the tag stamping process to go awry the same way in May, June, and Sept.

Does the "1" equate to "A"? Is there some sort of relationship there? Or could it be some sort of tracking process for the first so many of a process or design change? Just guessing.

I'am assuming the number 1 is supposed to be a letter A , 1st week of Sept. , the cars engine pad reads Aug. 25th. I've never seen a tag stamped like this and it is good to hear that other members have seen this stamp.     I've talked to a couple of the early owners of my car and they recall a crossram set up on it , neither one is the very 1st owner so I have no proof of a factory crossram setup,  but would this unusual tag stamping coincide with something they might have done to donote a crossram car?

No such thing as a factory crossram and no.

Yes, the 1's do seems to be that same as 1st week.
Most of the time, I've seen these errors be a programming or key stroke issue.

wisemanz28, if you click on the red CRG box in the upper right corner of this page and once the page opens, there's a lot of need to know  information.  When I joined CRG I spend hours if not days reading the information and looking at the archives. Plus the members of this forum have a wealth of knowledge.

Welcome and be safe,
