69 camaro LH door
« on: November 15, 2010, 05:07:50 PM »
Seems to me that i read a post here somewhere that said the drivers door stamp was re-tooled in late 69 to accomadate a sticker that displayed the VIn# in that door. If i did'nt imagagine this, is there anyone that may have a picture of this door, i have noticed that the left door is diffrent than the right door on my car.

Thanks, Mike

If I'm not mistaken it was in Aug of 69 the LH door was changed. Jerry McNeish talks about it in his books. The LH door has 2 impressions where the new Federal sticker went. Mine is 08E & has that door....Joe

hey does yours have the vin decal as well? trying to find out if all cars came with the sticker or if it was sporadic since it wasn't required yet

Every car produced after September 1, 1969 had the certification label; that's when the federal law became effective.

I understand that, but in Jerry's book it shows a pic of the vin decal on 671208 (i have been told this was a repop sticker in the pic). and that they began applying the sticker the first week of august 69. So my question is how early and how consistently did they start putting these on 69 camaros. I think my drivers side door had a touch up done at one point, I have a 08C car should mine have it?

No I do not know the date, it is just a photo I captured, have no knowledge of that car.
Here is another. A 69 SS L78, the date on the tag is 9/69. Sorry you can not read it, it is scanned from a photo. I am not sure when in Aug these blue tags started ??

great reference picture mike it's interesting that the date stamp on the decal moved around so much, hope fully we will get some people posting august cars if there really are any ? Jerry MacNeish's book shows 1 car that has it but looks to be a repop sticker, so guess his book and hoopers book are inconsistent.

yah the part about the locating lines is relevent, the reference to jerrys book and that car is not. I have heard from multiple sources that that sticker is a repop. There should be one guy on with a original sticker built in august if it ever happened at all. I am somewhat surprised Jerry hasn't chimed in here since he has probably inspected the most 69 camaros. Would that mean he would have to debunk that particular page in his book though? that remains to be seen, but so far no response with an original sticker.

Please keep the discussion limited to one thread.

Noone can answer your question for sure. But did you see Lynn's post?

Quote
The first car to get the sticker was somewhere between VIN 671122 and 671208, both of which are 08A cars.

Lynn  Bilodeau

The one VIN didn't have the tag, the other did. So it was in use by 08A.
