Looks like I started an argument going. I said the car was rare and might have been a one of a kind. It was built for drag racing since I had a strong running Chevelle before that and wanted to stay with Chevy.. The car was a 67 not a 68. The exhaust fit in the trunk because the rear seat seat folded down (before it was removed for racing). The exhaust was in about ten pieces. The front header pipes, two straight back chambered sections, two over the axle pipes, two chamber pipes across the rear and two tailpipes. It also had the multi leaf springs on the rear. How many have you seen with the cross ram, factory headers and heater delete? It was custom built for racing only.
  Sounds like a very rare "one of none" to me.

Yes the first Z/28's made had the 4P code on the cowl tag.  These were made at the end of December 1966 and first of January 1967 but there aren't many of them.

I would say that this car needs some sort of documentation to determine if it is legit or not. Pictures would help , but actual documentation would be needed to prove the existance of such a rare car. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is any supporting evidence out there that this sort of package was even considered for the 67 year. If nothing can be verified, then I guess the whole issue will fall under the old bench racer stories file. Let's see if anything can be proven. enough said!    Clem

Oh, by the way, wouldn't it be a fantastic find if it turned out to be true! This would definately be one for the books! I am just as sceptical as the rest of you by the way.  Clem

We have also figured out how many of the 67 Z28's had the 4P on the tag and the first car to have the 4L on the tag.

Most of you know this, and not to reflect on the car in question, but my references show an early prototype small block cross ram to have been developed 10/67, reviewed by Chevrolet Engineering and Smokey Yunick, and finally released after tweaking as a heavy duty service part- over the counter December '67 for homologation into '68 Trans Am series.

If you can find any documentation for the car- even just the VIN #, there is a fair chance you may be able to locate the car- since many 1967 Z28 survivors are accounted for. This would no doubt be a great moment for you if you could be reunited with the car. If you try to go this route, best of luck. It is certainly not out of the question that you may find the car.

Jerry MacNeish, who posted in this thread might be of help with a known VIN- I personally put a lot of stock in his knowledge!!!:

I will try to find the pics, but after going through two divorces I am not sure I still have them. The car was setup for drag racing and I was told that it was almost identical to the cars Penske was running in the Can Am series at that time. I know that the Penske cars had 4 wheel disc brakes and of couse he modified the suspension for road racing, but the engine, headers, intake that was all the same.
