'68 327/275 exhaust manifold #s
« on: August 14, 2008, 01:13:06 PM »
I'm getting conflicting information from my research on the manifolds I need. I don't really care if I have the 100% correct # casting, I just want it to have the right measurements, etc... to work with my factory exhaust and alternator brackets. Car will not have A.I.R.

I think the LH # is: 3892679 but I've seen two different listings for the RH # 3893608 and 3840912. Can anyone confirm which numbers I need and the differences between the two #s I have for the RH?  Can I use either for the RH?

Thanks in advance, Brian

The P&A shows 3892679 as a service part # for 68 Camaro, 327 w/4BC, LH, w/AT.
It shows 3893608 as a service part # for 68 Camaro, 327 w/4BC, RH, w/AT.
I suspect that the two differing #s may be original vs replacement, but I'd let Ed or somebody else verify that...

I wish I could help, but exhaust manifolds are not my forte. CBTN is kind of confusing and the P&A only shows service parts like Phil said.

Maybe someone else?

Well, CBTN & Hooper do speak of 3840912  for RH 68 Camaro 327/275 w/o A.I.R. and CBTN also speaks of 3893608.
And both speak of 3892679 as LH, as does the P&A.

Ed is right... it is confusing....

Thank you for the replies guys!! It seems to me 3840912 and the 3893608 SHOULD be interchangeable. I just hate to ebay a set, pay for shipping, and then have them be wrong.  I can't seem to find a set of these things, and it's starting to get frustrating...

Thanks again, Brian

Brian, if you're really not interested in the numbers, then you can go with either one. Both fit, so that's not a problem.

Thanks Ed, that's the info I was looking for. It's not an original engine car, I'm just dressing up a crate engine to look like a 327/275. So, I care about function and fit and not the numbers at all. I just wish there was some kind of readily available interchange manual or something similar I could look at to see what numbers will function correctly.

Again, thanks for the help. Brian

Thanks Tom!!  DARNIT!!  I just missed a set on ebay listed from a '65 Chevelle. According to your book they would have worked for me. They looked exactly right in the pictures, but the casting #s were not legilble. I was scared to bid on them because I wasn't sure they would work. Looks like they would have.

Thanks again for the info. At least now I know these castings were used on more vehicles than just the 7 & 8 Camaros. Gives me a little more hope to find a set...   Thanks guys for the help, Brian

Brian,

According to the P&A, you can add 68 Chevy IIs to your search for 3893608 and 3892679 to your search.
The passenger service #s are not the same.

Thanks again for the responses guys. Can someone look up 3834947 for me? I found a set from a '65 Chevelle and they have this number on the LH and the correct # I need 3840912 on the RH.

Again, not concerned about numbers, just correct function so the factory exhaust, heat shields, etc... will work. Thanks in advance, Brian

Brian, the 3834947 was used on the 64-66 Chevelle 283 and 327. It should work for you.
