Old Reliable going to the sales block
« on: April 16, 2008, 07:36:01 PM »
Quite a discussion going on over at Team Camaro on the sale of Old Reliable. Did I read on another thread that Jerry MacNeish is building another car to race?

Considering what happened to the Penske-Donohue 69 Camaro it is time to park it.

I didn't hear about the Penske Camaro... I assume it was wrecked? How bad?

Jerry told me last year he was going to sell Old Reliable ..not cheap !! I hope it finds a great new home.

I was racing my 935 in the Historic IMSA class at Infineon in May of last year when I saw the Penske 69 get bent at all four corners. It was pretty bad .Ken the owner of the car was not driving . He was running the Chris Cord Dekon Monza in our class

Kurt ,
Everyone agreed to not post any crash pictures of the car .There were a few but I think they got taken down. However .. MuscleCarJohn has some that he took . I think he is on both this board and TC but he is on NastyZ quit a bit .

Thanks, I did get some.

I'm baffled. Pictures take by people at a public event and they are requested not to be shown.....

I know what you guys are saying, but in a world that seems to lack respect for anything, I love the fact that people who love cars can honor such a request.

I know if I would have wrecked one of my cars I would have prefered to to not have pictures of it all over the internet. It just one of those things . you spend all that time prepping the car , you go out there and hang it out .. lots of work and lots of passion involved. It is hard to describe .

In 2003 at the Road and Track Invitational a guy totalled his car on the start/green flag... yes the green flag, ran up on the back end of another car, locked em up and hooked the car into a wall. He left the car in the paddock uncovered. It was pathetic. Bent at all four corners with fluid leaking out of it. We went over and covered the car. It's almost like a respect thing for the car.. not to hide anything. No one asked us not to post the photos.. we all just kind of thought better of doing so.

That's silly to request not showing pictures...what can it hurt?  Is someone afraid that some unethical person will "clone" a wrecked version of the car?   People build them and then race them publicly...racing has it's risks, I think they must have known that going in and been willing to take the risk.

The Penske Camaro is arguably one of the most valuable Camaro's in existence and I am sure that it will be rebuilt. Too bad you can't just build a replica body and use all the other parts and race that... kinda like the Grand Sport that has the replicated body on the original bird cage frame.

As I understand it the East coast Vintage Racing "Leagues" are more lenient about that sort of thing.  The West coast seems to be more uptight about providence.
