1967 11B with a 4N ?

Looking around ebay I came across this car.

 I was just thinking why would someone go and get a tag made and not get an engine and restamp it. It's not like the car has anything orignal on it nor is he trying to pass it as a numbers matching car. I don't even think the price is that out of line for what good camaros are going for around here. I'm sure if you guys say it's fake it must be. I still have a hard time telling the fake tags from the real ones.

Why would anyone do this? Because of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!! This car would be worth about 25-30% less than what his starting price is, without the 4N code on the tag. You don't need #'s matching drivetrain if that tag was legit. To the "novice" this tag would look like it is original to the car. This seller is trying to sell the car to someone that is not in the "know" on when the big block was actually put into production, as he himself "assumed" November was when they started building them. This is probably one of the better attempts to pass the tag off as original that I have seen in a while. What really hurts this car now is not knowing what it was originally. Even for the money the car is tainted without its original trim tag, best to hot rod the car now, then who cares what it was originally................RatPack..................

Even for the money the car is tainted without its original trim tag, best to hot rod the car now, then who cares what it was originally.

 The way I see the car now is that it is a hot rod. Unless that is a factory install Fire extinguisher, 700r4 trany, Auminum radiator w/electric fan, MSD ignition, four wheel disc brackes etc,etc.  I haven't seen the car in person but like I said. I've seen quite a few cars get that kind of money that are non numbers match. I have seen cars with no tags get more then that.
 There is a lot of people in the Chicago / Milwaukee area that have money to spend. A customer of mine sold a 6cyl 67 car non numbers match had a 350 motor, 350 trans,10 bolt about the same condition as that car and he got $36000 from a couple that came up from Chicago. He paid $10000 for the car put a used engine and trans. Detailed it some and made a killing. So I'm not to sure that car would be 25-30% less then his starting price.

I meant to say "it is best the car is a hot rod now", but anyway as for price, no bids speaks for itself. The seller is trying to get top dollar based on the first two lines in his ad:   "You are bidding on a super clean 1967 SS 396 bolero red camaro. It is a true SS and big block but non #’s matching engine and transmission." He is trying to profit from a fake trim tag, when he could remove it and probably bring the same money as he is wanting to get for the car with it in place. JMO..........RatPack........

I completely agree with you. But then there is that possibility that he has no clue it's a fake tag. Maybe he bought it that way and doesn't know any better. Not everyone is out to screw everybody. I guess I'm the guy that thinks everyone is a good person unless I have proof otherwise. There is a lot of people out there that have no clue about all the specifics of camaros, me included. That's why I like this site so much you can get all your questions answered. I passed on buying an 11c 67 rsss 4n car a few years ago because I asked about the car on here. If I never would have asked and bought the car I'm sure to this day I would be telling everyone it's a true SS396 car.

OK what am I missing here regarding the trim tag? He states it is not an original motor or tranny but what is wrong with the cowl tag?

11B  2nd week of November To early? To Late?

67-12637  67 model year "12" model 6= deluxe interior 37= coupe
760z Strato bucket standard no headrests
4N= SS  5Y= 396???

So what am I missing?

OK I messed up 4N = ss 396/325hp 5Y= Deluxe seat belts.

serial number 124377L117451 falls in line with the cowl tag built date of 2nd week of November 66 for 67. So when was the 396 available in the 67? That is the only thing that could may be wrong on the cowl tag. Like he stated, not an original engine or tranny.

I've been talking to the person selling the car for her uncle. She told me that her uncle bought the car three years ago and it was sold to him as a BB car. They had someone decode the tag and he told them everything looks good so he bought it. He put some more money into it and now wanted to get rid of it. I had asked about the tag and the early date. First she sent me a link to this site that talked about date codes and told me that B was Feburary so the car was built after January. After I explained about date code on parts and date codes on trim tags with links to this site. She said the same as everyone else. "that in the camaro white book it said that the ss396 came out in November" so being a 11B it must be good. So once again I sent her links to this site to show her the right and wrong. I haven't heard anything back from them. Needless to say they got a big eye opener about the car they thought was an orginal big block car.
  I'm sure most people will think that they knew all along and are just tring to screw someone. It just seems anytime you see a fake tag everyone thinks that the owner of that car is the scam artist. Fake tags have been around for a long time, and I'm sure there is a lot of cars out there people own that don't know that it's a fake car.
