« on: June 27, 2007, 10:46:03 PM »
How can you tell if it's the original engine. I'm kind of getting confused I thought there was one specific engine for every car but as of late I'm starting to think original engine just means it was built in the same place the car was or soemthing like that can any one tell me exactly How to tell if it's the original engine and what does original mean. Can any one decode this for me V022IKM it's the engine in my 67 rs camaro thanks

First, check out the following in the drivetrain decoding section of the CRG site:  http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PadStamps

Original engine is the engine that was put in the car at the factory during assembly.  According to the engine code that you have provided, and the on line reference noted below, your engine was originally in a 1967 Full Size Chevy.

The number you have decodes as:

V = Flint Engine Plant
022I = Feb 21 (date engine was assembled)

And according to the following link, KM = 1967; 327 cid with auto trans. and A.I.R.; 275 Hp;  4 Bbl carb; from a Full Size Chevy

Also check:  http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.html#ecode
