« on: March 14, 2022, 08:03:52 PM »
Just came from the rechrome shop, his price to do my 1969 Camaro original front, rear bumpers with guards front and back 1800. to 2000. Plus 150.00 per hour if any need hammered on. Is this in line with prices you guys are seeing. Vince

I suggest checking with Ogden Chrome in UT. You can get an online estimate, just provide some photos. Been 10+ years since they did some work for me, so what I paid doesn't really apply here. I will say I'm still very pleased with the deal!

69Z.  Bumpers and guards are at a chrome shop currently.  Each bumper $750.00.  Rear guard $175.00 each.  Front guard $125.00 each.

I just got a quote in mid-February here in MN for my 69 rear bumper and I got quoted $850 and a 6 month timeline to get it done.

I dont mind the price, but I was hoping it wouldnt be that long time of a turn around.
Its hard to find anyone close that does these.

Check with Librandis Plating in Middletown, PA.  Those prices posted here seem a tad high.

Given the fact that Nickel has gone from 25k/ton in dec to 100k/ton last week PLATING SHOULD increase significantly.

BTW I had my stuff done at Advanced Plating in Tricities TN.

Tri-City has treated me well and corrected mistakes free of charge. My neighbor who own a truck resto shop uses Librandi's.

Extremely personable and willing to go the extra mile.
I wanted "production" chrome as I was mixing NOS chrome and a few replated parts THUS I didn't want the replated parts to be of drastically better quality than the NOS parts - so ADVANCED noted where the grind/sanding marks were in the original parts.
They stripped the old parts -
Prepped them, then did a nickel strike.
Next they added some sanding grinding scratches,
Then did another nickel strike
then polished the nickel
Finished with chrome plating.
I also didn't want my parts over polished/buffed so that the sharp distinctive edges of the bumpers etc stayed crisp and sharp.

Very pleased with the outcome. Will use them for whatever I have plated in the future. Turn around was within 8 weeks IIRC.

I called Librandi's as I'm sending parts there for chrome plating.  They are $600 a bumper if its a good core, $125 each for bumper guards.

They have an excellent reputation.  Lucas Restorations used them for years too.

That seems like a great price Jerry! A decade ago they quoted me $125 a '68 door handle (my originals had zero pits or blemishes to repair) but I went with Jon at Custom Chrome in Ohio which was $100 each way back then. I used them a lot and Jon is a great person to work with.  Hard to imagine that great $125 price for a bumper guard the way parts have skyrocketed.

Ran across this website when searching locally for (TN) platers - searchable by state and industry type, I think there are 3189 plating companies listed here, along with companiy profiles and capabilities.

Here in TN, I've used Advance (formerly in Nashville, relocated to Portland) for bumpers and guards (they are really good, a bit pricey, offer both OE style and show chrome), Tri City in Elizabethton, TN (unbelievable core stock, will exchange or chrome plate yours), S&H in Nashville/Madison, TN - really good work, very reasonable and fairly quick turnaround). Sure are a lot more than I expected to be left in the US,

Powder coating and some anodizing companies listed here, too -

Thanks guys for all the input. At 600 per bumper plus 125 per guard thats 1700 for all. My shop wants 1800 to 2000 for 2 bumpers and 4 guards. If I add shipping from Portland, Or. to mid west or east coast I'm close to my guys price, plus they are only a half mile form my house. Vince
