L78 convertible production totals

Lots of speculation of the years, but here's the real production # for L78 convertibles, from GM records.
1967  113
1968  162
1969  189 (thru Sept 69)

If you had multiplied the convertible percentage for each year by the L78 volume, those #'s would be 130, 398, and 276. Interest that the 68 guess would have been off 2.5 times, while 67 and 69 were close.

Do you have a total on the # of them also had RS?

Do you have a break down of Auto Manual?

The old "calculated" number should have been figured using the 3920? production figure not the 4889, correct? . 69 - 9560 & 900 - 9561 production should be backed out prior to making the old calculations - being that zero of the 427 cars were verts. - but of course we really only were sure of that information in the last what 5-10 years max?  (that L72 and ZL1's were captured within L78 totals)

Amazing that those are the real numbers......because I’m sure they sold more then that last year on eBay alone!

That's interesting, but I am more interested in how new official GM information is found when all records seem to have been lost.
Is the the only new information, or are you holding back to let it trickle out?

I'm sure that many or most of those L78 convertibles were bought my NHRA sportsman racers.  That engine combo in a convertible changed the class and bumped you down the ladder a bit over the coupes.  Case in point, Ray Allen and the LS6 convertible.  That car was undefeated at all NHRA national events in 1970 and won the NHRA world championship.  Yet the stick shift LS6 cars did not set the world on fire in Stock of Super Stock eliminator.

Kurt, I was guesstimating in my head using 900 as the number of 9561's.

Jerry I had figured a L89 conv like Kevin S's was the ultimate - you lightened the front end  & got weight where it was more needed -over the rear tires - would the heavier weight of the vert along with less weight for a L89 put you in the same class as a L78 coupe?

68 Rag - it's not new information - someone in the NCRS has had them for who knows how long?  References to them go back in the NCRS archives for decades back to 57 -58 though they are scarce for Early cars

As far as I know The 1969 numbers are only ECL totals through September of 69.
