Cowl vin 1 number off 1967 RS SS Camaro
« on: March 29, 2020, 08:44:16 PM »
I'm sure I know the answer. But I went and looked at the sweetest 1967 Camaro RS/SS  LOS build car.   Vin tag looked good and matched the engine vin. BUT Cowl area vin stamp was 1 number off in sequence.  The car vin and engine vin is 124377Lxxxxx7  but cowl stamping was 7Lxxxxx6.     I'm assuming somewhere this camaro has been rebodied or something strange is going on. Has anyone ever heard or seen this error?

I have heard stories the LOS plant had funny things go on out there with stampings.... Has anyone ever seen a cowl body stamp from LA be one number off from vin?  Also the engine pad stamp was upside down and I have seen that is normal for LOS cars.  Thanks

Would love to buy this camaro but that cowl scares me off????

I would say it was a factory screw up. What are the odds of a rebody with the car before it on the assembly line?

I would agree, the car was probably made at 4:59 on a Friday.

My thoughts was a screw up initially. But man that would be a first that I have seen. Kind of why im hoping someone on here has seen that as its a nice car. Has air so no way to check under that area

I've seen it before. The stamper indexed after every two cycles (both partial body VIN's) - well it was supposed to. Not uncommon to see them half indexed.

So vin tag on door jamb matching the title and engine stamp matches vin but cowl stamp last number off sounds ok with you guys. If it passes this sites smell test, I believe I will own it tomorrow. 1967 RS SS 350, 4 Speed with air.. Very nice car.. Thanks for the help guys

Just because it passes the VIN test, doesn't mean it's a real SS-350! Nowadays you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a fake trim tag, so I HIGHLY suggest you post high resolution pictures of the engine pad and the trim tag so we can take a look at them.

Looks good to me but I'll let Kurt comment. Can you post a picture of the hidden VIN?

And I agree, it's a nice car! Not "perfect", but very few are nowadays!

Original pad stamping.
- too bad they added the vinyl top, didn't have one originally.
- AC is added, not factory like they say.
