Yep I read that. I also personally know of many other big blocks, some were non-solid lifter engines, that blew up. And I have several CE 396 and 402 blocks - they are not all 4 bolt main blocks. So there were non L78 blocks needed for warranty.

Ask JM what he thinks about big block engine failures sometime.  :)

It would be a good research project..  to look at the *probability* of blown engines for a) solid lifter engines vs. b) non-solid lifter big block engines!   :)

And No, I have NO desire - I hate those heavy ship anchors!  :)    I rebuilt ONE big block in my life ('454 from '70 Corvette) and when I set the first of the two 500 lb heads (at least it felt it) on the short block, I KNEW my engine stand was going to BREAK!   (and that would have been *another broken big block*).. :)

Here are the commercial 1969 colors.

I believe 516 is what we call Omaha Orange.

I believe 519 is what we are calling kinda of a Mustard Yellow.

I just picked up a Kenny Ross RS/SS 350 4 speed 1968 Camaro.
Nice find Brian! Can you post a pic of the color? Thanks!

Over the years, I haven't run across special paint KR cars, but they are showing up now!

I think the fact that finding a solid lifter car with it,s born with motor is rare it kind of says that the solid lifter engines were blown more often. Even back in the 70,s when some these cars where low mileage they still had replacement motors.

Does anyone know what the Kenny Ross Dealer emblem looked like in 1969? My car has a couple of small holes under the SS emblem on the tail pan, I'm thinking this must be where the dealer emblem was.

Ron,  I dont see where there was a Kenny Ross emblem on mine, but the salesmans sticker (John Baker) is on the bottom of the steering column. Does your car have the sticker on the bottom of the column?

No sticker under the steering column. This sticker was in the glovebox. (5-8-69)

That sticker is really cool! I looked closer and did find 2 small screws under the tail SS emblem. They are about 4 1/4 in apart. No emblem but the small screws are still there.

The color on the car matches up very well with the Commercial Color 519, from the pallette posted by Bryon, not the 516, as thought by some?

I looked quick in an old book I got from a now deceased friend. This book was in his shop for over 40 years, so a few pages are missing.

This is directly from his paint book, showing colors in 1965. Could not find 1968 but 1965 should be the same.

Also looking for a second paint color book which I have temporarily misplaced.  Might have loaned it to my son.  I will try to find it. Then will re-post if anything is different.

Gary might be onto something with the color used...
