so just for curiosity sake, every car i built i ran dual point distributors, so on  basically factory built race car, with a engine designed to turn pretty serious rpm's why did gm choose to go with a single point design? that seems odd? and none of my sun or autometer tach's needed a box to make them work?

I forget exactly when I bought mine, must have been around '72 for my '67 Camaro. The more I see and hear about this car the more I like it. MY OPINION is that dual points are a PIA, had and still have a few. Not sure how much better they were.

I had to comment on this.   If your distributor shaft has 8 lobes on the cam, then I agree that I'm unsure what advantage dual points have.   OTOH, if your shaft has 4 lobes, then that means that the dual points are operating alternately, and thus each set of points is opening only HALF as frequently.  In this latter case, I do think it helps re eliminating point bounce until you reach your actual upper RPM limit... (such as the Mallory Rev Pol distributor I ran on a couple of my Z28 engines... :)

oil pan original for a 68 Z?, DF rims all dated the same?,timimg cover? intake is correct but there's a chunk missing in that divider? the bottom oil shield was missing when i took it off? and the codes are grainy casting flash or something? the cam i took out its gm but doesnt seem to be the 30-30?  other storage parts pics. the cam, intake, distributor, 291 heads, oil pan, water pump, carb, all were taken off the motor that come with the car (its a 327 with factory pop ups, steel crank) the timimg cover in the pics, was in a box of odds and ends parts. the 327 had a two piece cast aluminum aftermarket cover, the 291 heads are the 68 202 with side sending unit hole.  im wondering if they blew up the factory block and moved all the parts over to the 327 block to keep racing? the oral history was that the original owner drag raced the car since it was new, but took the engine out and replaced it with a bigger engine?  when i think bigger i think BB but a 327 is bigger? lol   did a 327 ever use 291 castings?  i dont know im just thinking out loud.

the intake has some rough pitting on the passenger side, its not attractive but the guy that cleaned it up for me says he thinks its just cosmetic and will run fine. i had the heads professionally done, he says they are unported, he put hard seats in and recommended pinning the studs, my other cars were screw in studs, but he said these heads never came that way and that pinning with hardened roll pins was a period correct and reliable way to secure the studs??? i let him do it ?? it kinda looks awkward but he seems confident that if the factory studs stayed in pinning was even better?

What is the date on the water pump and the heads? I think I would have the web welded back in on the intake.

What is the date on the water pump and the heads?

One of the above photos shows the coolant pump is dated F 10 8 (June 10, 1968).
