Ok so how accurate is the reproduction? it looks like they re-created the 2nd version maybe?

That I can't tell you. I haven't seen any of the repops close-up, but what I see online makes me think they're like just about every other reproduction part out there. Close, but not exact.

Recently during this discussion, I took a quick look for the instruction sleeve (that was on my visor when purchased in Apr 1976 and removed from my visor and stored sometime in the early 80's).  I couldn't find it then, so I ordered a couple of the (69-72) Corvette sleeves from Corvette Central.   Well, yesterday while looking for something else over in my shop, I FOUND the original sleeve from the Camaro - sticking inside an old Chilton's Camaro Repair and tune up guide!

So here is a side by side comparison of the 'Corvette Sleeve - repro' and my Camaro sleeve - original.. front and back.  The differences I noted were 1) Size - the Corvette sleeve is larger for the larger corvette visor?  and 2) the PN's differ by '1' (3964573 for the Corvette and 3964572 for Camaro).  Both are dated 10-2-68.  The textual information and diagrams are both sized exactly the same - but the Corvette is on a larger sized sleeve.

Note:  The date/PN on the sleeve from my 09C Camaro is exactly the same as that posted previously by Terry69RSZ28 from his 03E Camaro, implying there was no change between those periods, and possibly no change from the date on those sleeves (2 Oct 68) until at least mid-Sept 69 and probably since that's so late, no change the rest of the production year.

Nice to find the original!  Hopefully you elevate it's status to something more special than a Chiltons bookmark. :)

Size - the Corvette sleeve is larger for the larger corvette visor?

Well, I have no clue why the Corvette sleeve is longer. My 69 Corvette visor is 4.5" deep and my 68 Camaro is 5" deep so the longer visor "should" be on the Camaro! (Someone check their 69 Camaro visor and see what it measures)

To continue... There were at least two (possibly three) steering column interlock warning stickers used as well.

The first (see top picture) was used from the start of production until approx late September or early October, 1968, and had a lot more information on it than the second (see bottom picture). A third sticker may have been used but I don't know what it looks like or the date it started. However I believe ALL these column interlock stickers were discontinued late in 1969 when the column rotating collar was discontinued.

Another research topic!!

Great pics an info as usual Ed.
So do you know the build dates of the cars in the photos of the steering columns?
(I know this is a tough one since the stickers got pulled)
When you say they discontinued the sticker in late 69 because of the rotating column, do you mean when the production of the 69 camaro ended, or do you think they stopped using the sticker prior to that?

thanks ED

No, sorry but I don't.

The exact date is unknown, but since production of the Camaro (and the Corvette) continued until the end of the 1969 calendar year, it was probably before that. I would guess August or September of 1969. We need to have some late Camaro owners (August, September, October, etc... of 1969) tell us if they have the rotating column or not.

I was curious, and since I have both 69 Camaro and 69 Corvette sitting in the basement I borrowed my wife's seamstress tape and went down and measured *around* each of the visors.  Basically you are right, the camaro visor is also larger *around* at 11-1/4 inches than the Corvette at 10-3/4".   Since the sleeves go around the visors, the circumference *around* the visors is a better measure than the width.

Note:  It also should be noted that the Repro Corvette sleeve which I pictured, saying it was 'larger', is provided by CC in 'unglued' fashion, meaning the user could cut/splice(tape) and make the visor sleeve to fit his visor...  My camaro sleeve was apparently glued together (on the ends) to form the sleeve with about 1/2" overlap at the glue joint.

Okay, I was mistaken on the steering column labels (re: the Camaro) so I've removed that reply above. While the rotating collar was used on ALL models in 1969 (except very late Camaros and Corvettes built after approx August of 1969), only the Corvette got the labels. Not sure why, but apparently GM thought Corvette owners were too dumb to figure it out like Camaro, Nova, Chevelle, etc... owners!!

Sorry for the confusion guys.
