More pictures of the engine compartment:

RS Washer bottle zinc screws.

Thought this was interesting as I was going through parts over the weekend and noticed this...  Not sure if it was done by the factory or previous owner...

Thanks Chick - I didn't notice and missed your PM regarding this additional picture until just now.. It does appear like it was painted so when I get one and get my plug out I will paint mine similarly - thanks for the trouble..
I also got your PM regarding the dipstick and I responded - hope you got it.. but the ghist of it was - mine was long gone by the time I acquired the car close to 30 yrs ago and had been replaced with a chromed version.. so I'm sorry to not be of any assistance to you with that!
Appreciate all your trouble with this!  Randy

I've enjoy seeing such a wonderful looking 68 in what looks like it was lost and stuck in time and then awakened in 2016-....

Thanks for the post and pictures. My 68 is so from original i don't know anything other than it was a V-8,  real RS and had a Muncie. A repainted with many things changed former drag car from the 1970's had little clues left when I found it in 82 with no mortar or trans. Even the 12 bolt date dosent quite fit the time line close enough. But it did still have a 5.38  :D

The rally green is my favorite color from that era. Mine was British green now old DuPont midnight blue I think I remember it being said.

Chick, that was the breather hose you referenced?  Looks like the one I have with the GM tag.

The AIM calls out to use four 9780422 (used many places in front end) which is a shouldered screw to attach the lower hood release.  Skip’s late 07D 68Z utilizes two shouldered 9780422 to attach to header panel and two 3846202 to attach to radiator support.

Note alignment hole in this late 07D 68 hood.

Zinc screw with captured serrated washer for horn.

Phillips screws used on this 07D, whereas our 01B 68 has hex head screws. Did not look but possibly a difference since RS?

Nice work Chick.
My 69 Z also used 2 different screws for the hood release, not the ones specified by the AIM
I put them back the way I found them

Thanks Bill! If you look at Skip's late 09D 69Z pics I just posted shows all four screws are the 3846202 captured washer screws. Our 68 01B had and has today the same set up as this late 68.

All four center caps have a smooth transition or radius from inner portion to face. The inside of caps have a single pole or column where screw attaches. Bottom of inside cap has a fairly smooth bottom stamped #3925805 and 5525504.

One of these just showed up in my neighborhood about a month ago . It was sold from the Virginia Beach area. Could this be it? I’m working on getting a closer look.
