ZL-1 Camaro Dealer Ads
« on: May 30, 2016, 02:19:05 AM »
I found this ad on the website of the British Columbia Camaro Club which is located in Vancouver. As you can see on the top left corner this ad was in Drag World on March 7, 1969.

Did the ZL-1 engine come with a different radiator than other BB V8 engines??  ie.  L78 etc?   Or do all the BB radiator and engines contain 2.7 gallons of coolant??   I would think an all aluminum engine would cool better than an iron engine of the same design/performance??

COPOs 9560 & 9561 included HD cooling and received a 23” 4 core radiator. For ’69 the upper hose connection was changed to a fitting with a 90º bend to reposition the hose. That’s what “curved neck” refers to. ’68s used a straight fitting. The radiator was not unique to COPOs, also saw usage on cars with A/C. There are a few COPOs known to have been built with the ’68 style radiator.

Later in the model year Chevy included HD cooling at extra cost when a 4.10 Positraction axle was ordered.

Very cool ad.

The person that made up the ad may not have been a car person. Stating "Heavy Duty Cooling" would have meant more to most people.

You got that right. "Turbo - Hyra" ? Either that, or the printer never graduated from the 8th grade (Jethro Bodine).
