It looks as if you have a CE warranty replacement block. You are missing a few characters in the code including the year position. The Muncie assembly code does not look correct maybe you have mixed up the numbers? First take another look at your codes and also include the cast date of the block. You are correct that this cowl tag is too early for an X code identifying it as a Z28. The original engine assembly code with a supporting vin would have been another avenue to "prove" it as a Z. Supporting original paperwork is also a source of documentation. You're happy with the car who do you have to "prove" it to

P9B408 - still incorrect. Muncie, 1969 model year, 40th day of Feb, M21
No worries, it's too late to be original to the car anyway.
BS-1011 - 3.31 posi, built 10/11. Looks original to the car.
1 or 2 fuel lines?

Has the car been restored yet?
If not what color is under the wiper cowl... down where you can see the wiper linkage?
Also where does the speedo cable come out of the firewall?
Does it have disc brakes?
If not... does it have disc brake A arms? (sometimes drag racers removed discs and installed drums for less drag)
What does the hole look like that was cut in the floor for the shifter?

Yes car was restored probaly in mid to late 80's.
Color under cowl is black satin
Car has no speedo cable nor did I see area in firewall(above pedals) for one?
Car does have front disc brakes(GM)
Shifter hole is approx 3" wide X 5 3/4" long with round corners

see if there is a hole in the firewall to the left and above (when looking at the firewall from the engine compartment) where the accelerator linkage comes through. This would be the Muncie Speedometer cable location.

There is a 1" hole located about 5" above accelerator linkage.

BINGO... that indicates a Muncie transmission... or at least someone knew enough to put the hole in the approx correct location.
