The original $59k selling price seems to be the area that most numbers matching Z's that are decently restored are going for among private parties.  In this case the color didn't seem to have any affect.  It will be interesting to see if a bidding frenzy jacks up the price at all, but that won't really reflect real world private party prices in most peoples opinions.

I've said it before, that's why I think people selling Z's and wanting $35k or more for a car that needs another $40k worth of restoration work are out of their minds when you can buy a nicely done numbers matching car in the $50-$65k range (not necessarily concours, but nice) and this car was just one example.

Is this still a sore spot for you?  ;D

I think we hear about all of them when they come up forsale   ;)    I don't care what color it is, At least it's a real Z for a change.  So we can at least be happy about that.

Sore spot?  Nope.

Just thought this horse had been beat to death, was long ago decayed and it's ashes had blown away with the wind.  :D

It gets old though when the same person keeps bringing up the same topic just to be antagonistic.

Ha, just pokin fun  ;D

I do like the fact that you guys spend alot of time documenting these cars, keeping track of vins, sales etc... so we can weed the fakes from the real ones and potential new owners can do their homework.

I see this car as no different in that respect, so it's good that someone brought it to light that it's hitting the auction block.  At least a new owner can be sure he's getting a real Z.

X2

Seems like there is so much interest in it, why not just buy it back?

Though most of us know the story behind it.  As long as anyone is in this hobby long enough they'll see and hear of it again and again ;D  As others become new to the hobby or it surfaces again in 5 years on the auction block it's always going to draw a discussion.   Like one said earlier... "At least it's a real Z for a change".   So lets in brace it for that !

Clem..you need to get a cut of the auction action on this car. I don't believe the car sold for $59k. There was something terribly fishy about that sale and the seller's radio silence after a well publicized restoration. If the Carolina Blue didn't sell at Mecum auction after being bid up to over $400k as a rare 1/1 then how did EO go for $59k?  Riddle me that Batman

FT Lang I did read the whole thing and that is why i reached the conclusion that I reached.  Made no sense to me how after choosing the EO color and all the controversy surrounding the car and the level of restoration that he would let it go that cheap.  My reserve would have been in the $100K range.  I know Jerry and William saw the car and attested it was CS and the trim tag was probably stripe delete, but when we saw the door panel peeled back with the pink hues and Clem's story even I was convinced it was a super rare 1of 1.  Maybe that does not mean super desirable but in my book it's more than $59K.  Either way no reason to rehash hear. Let's see what it brings at Mecum when it gets talked up.  What we know for sure is that it will not have Jerry's blessing as a 1 of 1.  If it were my car I would have had him come out after the restoration started to see the pink hues under the door panels.

Hi Rob -

I agree with you - one of one should bring much more than $59k.

I think that the Camaro forum banter had a negative effect on the value - it would interesting to have this car auctioned at BJ as it would be re-scrutinized by JM prior to crossing the block....

Looking forward to seeing how it does at Mecum - have a nice weekend😀

Ok, how about this: Wouldn't it fetch more if it was just painted silver stripe delete with a black vinyl top?  Maybe the EO (pinkish hue) is just a turn off?

( I assume it is numbers matching drivetrain, I couldn't remember)
