« on: November 16, 2006, 01:13:58 PM »

Classics only cost alot if you keep track of what you spend. :)

Kurt,

That's what I thought also, but after looking in the 1968 Chassis Service Manual, sure enough, it's 320 @ 2400RPM!

Here's some torque curves in Rich's L30/M20 report. Sure enough, that's the gross #'s. It is a little optimistic IMO. :)

320 is b-s  lol. I had a 327/210 '68 and while it was peppy, it was no tire-fryer. 210 torque is more like it.  Just so much you can do with a 2-barrel.....lol

TStone,
I got that figure straight out of the 68 Camaro literature that GM sends out when you call their toll free number and ask for it.  The info is free!

Look here: http://www.camaros.org/geninfo.shtml#InfoSources

Although, I do agree with these other guys.  That's pretty optimistc.

When I rebuilt my '69 327/210 in 2005, the cam was changed to enhance low end torque and I had the intake valves enlarged in the '175' head from .174 to .194; the exhaust valves were left stock at .154.

I rebuilt the engine with the original 2BBl maniflold and carb because the car is being kept original.  However, evern with the resriction of the 2BBl mainifold and carb, up to 4000 rpm, the car pulls very well - then it rolls off pretty quickly.  As stated previoulsy, not a tire burner, but it is peppy and kind of surprises you how well it does run, especially when the little ol' 2 speed Powerglide doesn't shift out of first unitl 65 mph if I keep my foot in it.

I don't know what the low end torque of the engine currently is (with the minor mods mentioned above), but 350 lb-ft would not be a stretch, in my opinion.
