Another 1969 Z28??
« on: February 19, 2015, 03:38:39 AM »
Hello again -

I am still searching for a real 69 Z28.

Attached is a photo of a 69 Camaro engine pad stamp I am looking at - my concern is the font in the "1" of 15. Any comments on this stamp would be appreciated.

As well I have attached photos of the trim tag and engine VIN stamp for any comments.

Thank you :)

Be careful of this dealer. Here is another one they have for sale that has already been discussed.

Now who's confused about a TT FtLangleyBC? Seller thinks their Z is an SS/RS by TT pic descript. ?  Lol, ...this is a rhetorical comment/question BTW.

That car was built 146 cars after mine... here is my TT for comparison. I only have 2 thoughts about that car... 1st is the rubber gasket on the air cleaner is inside out, a common mistake. 2nd... why have they not given the block casting # info.?
 My VIN was L 505849

Hey Jim,

Just curios , how did you come up with "his car was build 146 cars after yours"?

Thanks, Rick

Thanks for the comments :)

I had noticed the seller stated SS/RS & after looking at a couple of legit engine pad stamps received from today from JM, I am pretty sure this is a re-stamp.

Jim - fyi the engine block casting date is I 20 8.

No early cars were stamped on the oil filter boss and no late cars made in LOS someone has been stamping on the block.

My partial VIN is stamped near the oil filter too but its so faint in the rough casting area that its not readable until the
engine is someday pulled out. The current owner of my RS will be messing with a possible new engine, LS1 maybe, and then he will be able to take pics of the partial VIN when it comes out.

James I assume you mean no early NOR cars? I know of a documented LA Z/28 9L502xxx that has the partial down by the oil filter.

I should never say never...
I am going to assume you mean the vin derivative has been documented by McNeish as a real stamp, not just the car is documented as real.

Would that be a 10A?
I had never heard of any stamping down on the rough casting before mid December prior to today, and every VIN derivative I have ever seen on a LA car was on the deck regardless of build dates from September through June.
I don't know how I missed that bit of information. at least it gives another place to check.
I have a friend with an early LA Z28 (October) I will tell him to check that location as well.

So what is the earliest the Vin has been found on the oil filter boss?
And from which plant?

Was there a reason for Van Nuys to move down then back to the deck before December?
Did Norwood do something similar?

Never seen one either, until this one. Now I cannot say for sure if JM has inspected the car, but Kurt is aware of it. I will ask owner. It's an 09D car, Hugger Orange, narrow rear stripes, and by 'documented' I meant it has PoP, window sticker, sales receipt, owner's manual, warranty paperwork, every single receipt, owner's handwritten tune-up notes and service records from new. Bought from Fred Gledhill Chevrolet, spec'd with 4.10 posi, VE3, vigilite, AM/FM, console with gauges, deluxe black interior and more. Block is V0913DZ, never rebuilt, still had grease pencil marks on block between freeze plugs and on heads. Has original ADs with Wide Tread GTs. Last on road in 1987.
