68 RS Z28 - opinions please
« on: September 21, 2014, 12:38:19 AM »
I spent some time with the owner of this car at a show today.  He says that it's original engine.  I haven't studied a lot of SB stamps.  What do the experts think?  It's a cool car - RS, factory cowl plenum, 42k original miles, factory docs., original panels.

this guy saved everything - smog, original air cleaner.  Says that cowl plenum came in the trunk when new?

PLenum and header were available in trunk when new... McNeish has a documented low mile one... pushed the Z28 option price to double the base.

Bergy,
Is it code E? Fathom? There was a Fathom blue 68 Z at MCACN last year that was awesome.

Bruce, was the guy's name Paul? The car was his son's correct? I looked at the car at the last show we were at together (you probably never saw it as he left on the early side) and the pad seemed correct to me both in broach marks and stamping but I'm no expert. The cowl plenum was the real deal but had a repro rubber sleeve. He gave me his name and address as I wanted to look the car over more closely. Nice to look for things on real Z/28's and of course, got to love those 68 Z/28's.... :)

I may have been to quick to label it a restamp.I bet your right that were going to learn something here. Never seen a hand stamped MO before. Its so bad that I cant help but wonder if its some kind of factory correction, everything else on the pad looks good.

I need to clarify something here.... :) The stamping looked OK to me but not referring to the MO that apparently was hand stamped of course for some reason. Our MO was built 10 days after this one and much of the assembly build date stamp looks the same. It for sure is interesting as I never saw a MO like that but again the rest seemed to fit the bill. I took a picture of it with my cell phone but not much better than what Bruce showed.

Little backyard innovation. I do not know how sturdy the mount was on the Kustom headers ,but personally I hate the after market brackets, (pre 69 set up) always an issue with bending, cracking and header leaks.  Looks..??.., but a functional solution was found utilizing what they had. Credit due.

Interested on hearing a little more about the car.

Can't make out driver's , wrong passenger head ,accessory holes. Late in the year?
