Trunk and header emblem.
« on: November 14, 2013, 08:43:55 PM »
Is there a difference between the trunk emblem and the header panel emblem for the first gen 68-69? I have 2 with separate numbers on the back of the "BY CHEVROLET" side. One emblem has PT. NO. 3916654  C-1, and the other emblem has 7752901    then a circle with something inside it and then a  2. I have seen both of these cast numbers surfing online but don't know much about them only to say the PT. NO. emblem says it's a 68-69 Camaro trunk/header panel emblem and nothing comes up on the other number. Weird, unless one of them is a reproduction?

1968 AIM ---> page 137 UPC 11-13 A5

3916654

Not sure about the other..  Just guessing but maybe its for the rear (IF there is a difference); I did not see the trunk emblem in the AIM..  Probably due to Fisher Body installed it??  IDK  again just a guess.

There is definitely a visual difference..

Correct - the 7752901 is a Fisher Body part number, and they installed the deck lid emblem.

Note that each emblem was serviced as a kit that included attachment hardware. 7752901 had nuts with sealant, 3916654 had standard nuts.

That makes sense, no leaks into the trunk.   ;)

I bought an NOS 3916654 off EBAY, and pulled the original 7752901 off my header panel. Note this came off the header panel, I did not have a trunk emblem because there was a spoiler added to the car at some time in its history. I'm not saying the 7752901 was original to the car nor a header panel emblem. It just occurred to me that I should compare the original vs the "Genuine GM" and although these are different part numbers they should be equivalent (other than age and patina). Original on top in pics.

My first impression was that the original was heavier, but they both weighed 1.25 oz.
The original script has more distinct lines. The flat area on top of the script has crisper edges.
The original script has more angle from front to back of the emblem, which fills the space between the letters and corners. For example the top of the m has less open area than the new part.
The original "BY CHEVROLET" is blockier and crisper. For example the O is fuller.
