However, I personally like it the other way...  RS/SS or RS/Z28.  It's alphabetically correct and it sounds better saying "Rally Sport Z/28" vs "Z/28 Rally Sport".  Say it out loud and see for yourself.

I completely agree that RS/SS and RS Z28 sound MUCH better.  About 20 years ago my brother told me that it was SS/RS when he sold me his wrecked 71 SS/RS 396 Camaro...so it's second nature now.

Thanks Paul!  Much better pictures than my old book by Wayne.  I never knew Edelbrock made a copy of their own.  I thought it was only Offy and Winters that cast cross-ram.

crossram never came from the factory. r/s is an option and there are plenty of rs z-28's. none with crossram.

I guess I should have asked if you could order an SS/RS/Z28 and have the dealer install a cross ram intake...?

Could you get a SS/RS/Z28 Camaro with a crossram and a 4-speed?  67, 68, or 69?  Or are these just phantom cars?  Or could you special order one?

Doesn't the SS ONLY come with a 350?  Meaning that you could get an RS Z28 with a crossram with a 4-speed?

General Discussion / ZL1 Production Numbers?

Why do the ZL1 production numbers (90) and crate engines (17) have a tilde (~) in front of each (~90) and (~17)?  That seems odd.  Does this mean that these numbers have been questioned in the past and that at least one historian "in the know" remembers a different number?  It not only seems odd that Chevrolet didn't produce more that ended up in R&D and other racing programs.  Wait!  What am I saying?  Chevrolet wasn't racing.

In Paul Van Valkenburgh's book,"Chevrolet ---Racing?" he refers to aluminum big block 427's in racing.  He states, "Penske immediately picked up a half-dozen which were shipped to Traco, McLaren bought a bunch, and the 1968 Can-Am season was off to become a relatively competitive series." He also states, "The production aluminum-block 427 Chevrolet engine saw finally made available to the general public. Most were sold across the counter at around $2000 for the short block, but some were built in Corvettes and Camaros."

Is the ZL1 that we say only (~90) were produced, is that only complete engines? I take that as meaning there were A LOT more of these blocks produced, but only (~90) were complete engines. Any insight?

For 69's you're correct about the SS & Z28 but the reinforcement plate had nothing to do with an RS.

Sorry my bad.  I knew that the RS did not have anything to do with a high-performance engine...which required the dual exhaust...like the SS and Z28.  I can't go back and edit my post to omit my oversight.

Hey guys,

So in a previous thread, you answered my question about the welded reinforcement plate welded to the side of the drivers side rear frame rail on 69's, by pointing me to:

Without that reinforcement plate, a 69 Camaro could definitely NOT be an RS, SS, or Z28.

Does the same thing go for the 67 and 68 Camaros?  If they didn't have Riv-nuts in the rear frame rail...they are definitely NOT an RS, SS, or Z28?

General Discussion / F&SO or COPO

Hey guys,

Is there a page or a section on CRG that I'm not seeing that explains more about Fleet and Special Order's (F&SO)?  Is it somewhere and I'm just blind?   I've seen F&SO on the Broadcast sheet where it reads "F&SO Or COPO No." and I've read that special order paint does not make your Camaro a COPO car...since there wasn't any engineering involved in changing paint color.

What else do we really know about Fleet and Special Order's?  What other things have been documented as Fleet and Special Order's?  Were there any first gen Police cars ever built?  If so, would those be fleet?  Would a Special Order simply cover adding a HD radiator or a folding rear seat to a plain jane L6 powered Camaro?

So ALL 69 SS coupe's had dual exhuast and the hanger bracket on the side of the frame?  So if you bought a 69 coupe without a factory dual exhaust bracket and it was purchased as an origianl SS, you got duped?  I'm not sure this question was ever answered with confidence here...so convertible 69's didn't have the welded dual exhaust bracket?

So if you find a bare shell, and it doesn't have the dual exhaust bracket, it couldn't be a Z28 or an SS...but it could have been a plain jane or an RS?
