Old Man

I noticed from your 4/23 picture of your car that it appears to be a 350 ci engine by the insignia.  Is that what is in the car?  We need to know what engine you have to help with the filter question.  :)

Steve

Yes I'm sorry it is a 350.

Maintenance / Correct filter numbers?

First off I should say if there is a better forum for me to ask these questions please let me know, thanks. I just picked up my 69 Camaro last Friday night so the first thing I do is change the oil, oil filter and air filter. The oil filter that came off of it apears to be a AC Delco PF25, what was the correct oil filter part number? My car has a working cowl hood and i couldn't find a correctly sized air filter to fit it. I wound up using a Fram CA136 in it, what is the proper part number for the air filter? Thanks guys, I know I have alot of basic questions but I am new to the 1st gens.

Maintenance / Re: Won't start when the starter gets hot.

Does your car have headers or stock manifolds?  Headers tend to be more of an issue than stock manifolds.  Also, check the battery voltage under a load test.  Most parts houses can check the battery for you.  Under a load test at half the rated cold cranking amps of the battery, the battery should still be putting out at least 9.5 volts.

Basically you are looking for excessive voltage drop between the battery and the starter solenoid as well as checking to be sure that the battery is still strong.  If all that checks out, time to check the starter.  Worn bushings will let the rotor in the  starter drag on the internal stator windings - this condition usually gets worse if the starter has been exposed to high temps from the exhaust system.

Stock manifolds, lol. What do the volt meters in a 69 normally read? If it matters mine is forward of the center console and most always reads "0" like it's not charging the battery but as I said after it cools a bit it starts right up.

My 69 will not start after I've driven it and the engine is at running temperature. I have to wait 5 to 10 minutes until it cools down then it will start. My buddy says it's the starter heat soaking, does anybody else's do this and what is the fix? Thanks

Old Man -

Beautiful car!  Here's a link which will help you decode anything on your trim plate:

http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#CowlTag

I've got the cowl tag and VIN info but where do I find the build info? This car doesn't have a door tag?

As far as any build info, that would be on the Protect-O-Plate (POP) inside the original warranty book if you have it.  It's very rare for the POP to still be with the car 38 years later.  It's also possible to have a build sheet "hidden" somewhere in the car.  The build sheet is very, very rare to find, especially if your car has been restored.   :)

Paul

The POP is in the glove box, I was looking at it last night. It's hard to read, looks like it's printed backwards.

Hello this is my first post on this board. I just picked up this 69 Camaro this past weekend. I have a couple of questions on the cowl tag information. So far I've figured out that my car is a 69 Norwood car, it's an X-11 code 53-50 paint code with standard buckets. What does the "TR" infront of the 715 indicate and what does the "09C" below that mean? Thanks
