The only things that would prohibit you from having gauges was if you had a 6-cylinder or no console or if you had the tape player

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Body Tag No. versus VIN
« on: June 29, 2007, 07:11:09 PM »
I think what Jimmy is asking is if the Fisher body number stamped on the cowl tag correlates to the VIN. From all the threads I've read here and at TC, the answer is yes. How to tell if they go together, I have no idea, but the experts here can tell.

Hi, Dave, there were nearly 45,000 327's in the 69 model year, phased out mid-year. http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#XnnCodes This research report states that the X-codes started in the 12B week. So, yes, it's likely that a 327 car would not have an x-code. I don't know anything about a 'thinner' cowl tag, maybe someone else can answer. If you can get a picture of the tag, post it for the experts to see, that goes for any pics you can get, VIN tag, engine stamp, etc.

Use of 4P began in late Dec. 66 to early Jan. 67 for L30/M20. Yours is certainly not L30/M20, because of the lack of an M20. Yours had a PG. Van Nuys started using the 4P code on the SS350 cars in September, but Norwood didn't start using the 4P code until October. So possibly L30, more likely LF7. In any case, do the car how YOU want it, the value will still be there, have fun.

The 3rd digit of your VIN is even, so it came with a V8. Since there are no group 4 option codes on your cowl tag, it had to be a 327.  The LF7 (210 hp 2-bbl) outnumbered the L30 (275 hp 4-bbl) by 4 to 1. I'm pretty sure  that the 327's did not get the partial VIN stamp, so there would be no way to know if you found "THE" motor. The rear should be a 10-bolt. You should post pics of your tags for the experts here, they can give you more info than I. Here's a link to check out numbers decoding http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml and I encourage you to check out as much of the awesome CRG site as you can.  8)

http://www.camaros.org/glass.shtml
This article suggests that PPG glass (bottom of page) is likely from a 67 or 68 firebird.  Check the A7 again, it should be a 2 or 3 digit date code, and the M23 probably should be M25.

Yeah, I saw 2 auctions tonite where the sellers were new, had some crazy low BIN price, email at such and such cuz the ebay system doesn't work for them, etc, etc.  There were bidders that had the cars over 1 million dollars.  Good entertainment!!

« on: November 20, 2006, 03:02:39 PM »
Colvin's Chevrolet BTN shows that intake being used on 68 L30 and L48 Camaros, although your casting dates do seem to suggest that it may have been used on a very late 67. It would be interesting to know what the database has on this.

Did anybody get the YearOne wheel, and if so, how does it compare to the original?
