Originality / 1967 396 Tire Size
« on: March 22, 2010, 01:25:33 AM »
When the 396 option was introduced in 1967 was the tire size increased from D70 14 to E70 14?  I just noticed in the Assembly Manual that it calls for E70's on the 396.  I am specifically interested in L78 optioned cars.

Thanks for the help.

« on: January 03, 2008, 02:38:22 PM »
Was it possible to get the rear antenna with AM/FM in 1967?  I think I saw something where it said that the rear antenna was not available with AM/FM.  Also, are there differnces between 67 and 68 Radios?  Thanks for the help.  And while I am asking questions does anyone (which vendor) make a decent repr rear antenna?

Originality / 68 Trunk Restoration
« on: April 08, 2007, 09:53:00 PM »
I am restoring the trunk of my 68 that has the custom interior option.  I mention that as the custom interior comes with additional body insulation, some of it is in the trunk.  Can anyone describe the extra insulation that would be in the trunk so I can accurately duplicate it?  The car has all original metal and unfortunately someone spray bombed the trunk.

As far as extra insulation goes the car has an asbestos? mat about 12" x 34" which sits on the floor toward the forward part of the trunk. Was the mat installed before the trunk spatter paint was sprayed or after the paint was applied?  Also the insides of the quarters have what appears to be undercoating sprayed on them?  I would imagine that the undercoat was applied prior to the spaying of the spatter paint.  Was there any other areas in the trunk that were sprayed with any other sound deadening material?

And finally, who has the best product for getting close to the original spatter paint appearance?  And yes I know that most of this will be covered up by the trunk mat..but I do try to do it correctly.

Thanks for any help you can offer

Decoding/Numbers / GM of Canada Documentation
« on: February 17, 2007, 03:46:10 PM »
I am looking at a 68 with GM of Canada Documentation.  There are no other doc's with the car.  I have 2 questions.  The car has a couple of small options that are on the car but are not listed on the document.  The car's ownder says he believes that the GM of Canada doc's list only the major options and may not be a complete listing of all options.  Does this sound correct?  Also, does anyone know the contact process with GM of Canada to idependently verify the information on the document that I have?  I have absolutely no reason to doubt the seller, but I also feel that it is best to be certain.  Thanks for the help.

« on: January 19, 2007, 12:10:31 PM »
I am trying to locate a WT master cylinder for one of my 68's.  I have noticed that the casting number 5460346, can either be cast in upside down or right side up.  Can WT's for a 68 have the casting number on the master cylinder either ways  If not which way is correct?  Thanks for the help

Restoration / 67-68 non console manual trans shift plate location
« on: June 20, 2006, 11:14:01 AM »
Any one have the dimension for mounting the shift plate on a non console man trans car?  I have the hole in the floor pan in the correct spot as I have a console car that I could get the dimensions from.  I could work with the dimensions of the actual shift plate on the floor, especially the dimensions from the side of the tunnel to the edge of the shift bezel.  Thanks for the help.

Originality / Refinish 68 trunk
« on: April 28, 2006, 01:08:40 AM »
I have 2 68's one a std car and the other a deluxe interior RS Z.  The one with the deluxe interior and RS has an extra sound deadening mat in the floor of the trunk as well as extra undercoating sprayed on the insides of the quarter paner of the trunk.  The question is this at what point was the trunk sprayed with the spatter paint?  Prior to when the mat and the undercoating were appllied or were the undercoating and mat added after (on top of the spatter paint)? The car also has a trunk mat.

The std car has a nice original never messed with trunk.  The deluxe interior RS car has been touched up.  Which leads to another question, which product best duplicates the original spatter paint?

Thank you for any help you can offer

Originality / 1968 Trunk Mat
« on: March 05, 2006, 06:32:26 PM »
My 68 Trunk mat is an origianl GM piece for sure.  However, the cutouts in the mat for the top of the shocks don't line up.  The holes for the shocks that are in the mat do not line up with the staggered shock locations that were introduced in 68.  Does this mean that I have a 67 mat or did GM just keep using the 67 mat in 68?   Also how should the mat fit around the gas filler neck?  I ask this as I have another mat, also original that is formed in another way for the tank filler?  Thanks for any help.  Bill D

Decoding/Numbers / 1968 Z/28 Jack instruction decal part number
« on: February 06, 2006, 11:47:16 AM »
I just saw in Rick's catalog that the jack instruction decal for a 68 Z/28 Camaro requires its' own specific decal PN 3909124, while all other coupes require a different part number? The other coupe PN's he shows are 3949516 (non SS) , and 3947628 (SS). Is this correct? Thanks for the help
